Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, octagonal barrel with G. Miller engraved in script letters on the top facet. The finial of the patch box in the shape of a snake's head is the most outstanding quality of this rifle. Another Lancaster maker named Holtzworth used a patch box that was similar to this one. The products of G. Miller are very rare.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, octagonal barrel 40 inches long with S. Pannabecker engraved on the top facet in script letters. The lock-bolt plate, the carved patterns, and the contour of the stock suggest production in the eighteenth century, but the style of the patch box is definitely of the early nineteenth century. Barrels signed by the Pannabeckers are not uncommon, but complete guns by any of them are quite rare.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, octagonal barrel with P. Berry engraved on the top facet of the barrel in script letters. The design of the patch-box finial seems to have been used only by Berry and is one of the factors which assist in identifying his products. The carving on the cheek side of the butt is another of Berry's original designs. Berry is known to have made a few fowling pieces. Any of his guns would be a valuable asset to a collection of Pennsylvania guns.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, silver inlays, and octagonal barrel with M. Edwards engraved on the top facet of the barrel. The finial of the patch box on this rifle is obviously the "drooping feather" pattern used by a number of rifle makers in the York County area. The C and S scrolls in the carved portion of the stock are cleverly executed. The wire inlay is an unusual feature of a Pennsylvania rifle. Edwards was obviously a fine gunsmith.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, octagonal barrel with M. Shell engraved on the top facet of the barrel. This rifle by Martin Shell is a fine example of the work done in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the eighteenth century. The design of the patch box was used, with some variations, by a number of makers, but this one compares favorably with the best examples. The cheek side of the butt is extravagantly carved. The contour of the stock and the fine curl of the wood are also important features of this fine rifle.

Description
Locks with engraved lock plates like this one were used on Pennsylvania rifles about the middle of the eighteenth century. Some of the lock plates were flat and others were convex like this one. Some were made by Ketland and signed on the inside of the plate.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, and octagonal barrel with G. Eyster engraved in script letters on the top facet of the barrel. This gun is really a lavish display of the gun maker's craft. The lace-like quality of the patch box decoration, the extensive use of C scrolls on the bas-relief carving, and the profusely engraved patterns on the brass work are evidences of Eyster's skill. He made unusual use of the cross-hatching technique in his carving and his engraving. He also used a great many screws to hold the brass mountings to the stocks. There are twelve screws in the patch box. Few of his products are signed, but his style can be recognized by anyone who has seen a number of his guns. He is known to have made both rifles and fowling pieces.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of curly maple, brass mountings, and octagonal barrel with J. B. in an intaglio stamp on a side facet of the barrel. Bonawitz worked in the late eighteenth century and his guns are typical of that period. His carving is of high quality and his products are fine through out. The style of his patch boxes is consistent and he usually used two rivets to hold the stud which engaged the catch for keeping it closed. The patch box release is usually located on the butt plate. His products are rare and a very desirable asset to any collection.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of maple, brass mountings, and octagonal barrel. The flat butt plate, the thickness of the butt, the early lock with its convex lock plate, the simple incised carving on the cheek side of the butt, and the two piece brass patch box all point to the fact that this is one of the earliest rifles made in Pennsylvania. Its style and period suggest that it was made in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Rifles of this type are extremely rare.

Description
Rifle with flint lock, full stock of maple, brass mountings, octagonal barrel 45 inches long with J. Graeff engraved on the top facet of the barrel. This rifle is unquestionably one of the first ones made in Lancaster County with a four-piece brass patch box. Some of the first patch boxes were plain , but this one has a few lines engraved on it suggesting the standard Lancaster pattern which appears on rifles made at the end of the eighteenth century.
