Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. Manuscript book of poetry compiled by Alice Caldwell of Lancaster. Some poems, songs and hymns are copied from other sources, but some may be original. She signed and dated each composition. 1837-1839, 1853.

Insert 2 Eulogy, "On the Death of Robert Scott," composed by Henry Carter. Mr. Scott, a native of Little Britain, Lancaster County, died of Erysipelas Fever in California. No date.

Agreement between Elliott T. Lane and James Buchanan concerning funds of Jane B. Lane, Elliott’s wife and James’ sister, and in case she makes no will, how the estate will be divided. Involves bequeaths from her father, James Buchanan, and her mother, Elizabeth Buchanan. Also mentioned in the agreement are her sister, Harriett Henry, and her brother, the Reverend Edward Y.
