Description
Manuscript book of poetry compiled by Alice Caldwell of Lancaster. Some poems, songs and hymns are copied from other sources, but some may be original. She signed and dated each composition. 1837-1839, 1853.
Insert 1 Three drawings by Alice Caldwell
Two drawings of a vase with intertwined flowers. 28 September 1827.
Branch with two peaches and at the side a smaller bird with a flower in its beak. 28 October 1831.
Insert 2 Eulogy, "On the Death of Robert Scott," composed by Henry Carter. Mr. Scott, a native of Little Britain, Lancaster County, died of Erysipelas Fever in California. No date.

3/4 profile bust charcoal portrait of woman wearing amulet clasp at center of neckline with white collar. Four buttons are visible down front of her bodice. Her hair is parted in the center. There appear to be ribbon/folds over her left ear with hint of fabric on top of her head and along right side like a bonnet or hair-covering on back of her head. She is looking left, eyes skyward. Back: "Mrs. Jacobina Gruel" written cursively in pencil on back.
Drawing, attached to cardboard, is brown overall. Lighter border from frame that has been removed.
(Note: Jacob J. Gruel (1809-1882) married Jacobina Swartz (1811-1892)

Description
Pastel portrait of a woman, dark hair parted in middle, facing slightly to the left. Her white head covering has a thin band beneath the chin. A white sash is around her neck, overlapped in the front to cascade below her chin and widen down of her chest.
This Gutekunst photo has been enhanced with charcoal and white pastels. It is matted with an oval opening. Angled along the base of her left sleeve impressed in tiny cursive is " F. Gutekunst" with a line beneath.
Written in pencil on reverse: " 189/ Pastel Portrait,/ woman".
Label on back: "From/ F. Gutekunst/ Photographer,/ 719 Arch Street, Philadelphia."
Frederick Gutekunst (September 25, 1831 – April 27, 1917) was an American photographer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He opened his first photographic portrait studio with his brother in 1854 and successfully ran his business for sixty years.

Ida is looking to the left. Her dark wavy hair is parted in the middle and pulled and attached in the back. She is wearing a dangling pierced-ear earring. Her dark garment top, with three decorated buttons on the front that are beneath a horizontal pin at the neckline. Over both shoulders of her garment there is elaborate decorative stitching/trim

Watercolor aerial-angled view picturing the lower right corner of the bed. Green fabric curtains are tied to the slender fluted wooden column beneath the top decorative gray wooden edging. A square wood portion of the column supports the cross piece at the foot of the bed. A white covering on the bed has pink stripes along its edge and a green flounce matching the curtains above hangs between the mattress and the floor. Printed in lower left corner: "BEDSTEAD/ YEATES' HOUSE/1879."

Description
Ink drawing on paper, depicting the entrance hall of the Yeates Mansion. The foreground shows a chair, cushioned bench, and rug as well as a map on the left wall and a framed coat of arms on the right wall. At midpoint are fluted pilasters supporting Doric Order entablature, and in the rear is an open stair case and a rear door.
The drawing itself is in black and white, while the border has been colored tan.
The caption at lower left reads "HALL OF 'Ye OLDEN TIME'/ YEATES MANSION/ LANCASTER. PA."
The artist has signed and dated the drawing in the lower right corner: "8/79/ D. McN. Stauffer"

The edges are worn and browned. Part of the bottom left corner is A light brown mark appears at the bottom, to the left of the caption. There are remains of a previous backing on the corners of the reverse, and glue stains have bled through to the front., especially in the lower right corner.
