In the case of "poor children," teachers were reimbursed by the county for tuition and/or the supplies purchased for students whose parents were unable to pay. Orders include: Poor Children, Almshouse, Bridges, Coroners' Inquests, Prisons, Roads, Court House, and Tax Exonerations.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson detailing his travels from Philadelphia, to Harrisburg, and then to Lancaster and possibly New York unless detained by orders of the President; feels closer to her since he knows that the waters of the Susquehanna flowing by him now will soon enter the Chesapeake Bay and then flow by her in Annapolis; jokes about writing long letters; found her mother in good spirits after seeing her in Philadelphia; is writing from the home of James B. Lane (Harriet Lane’s brother) in Lancaster where all are kind, but he doesn’t like Lancaster and longs to be in New York; has plans to see both her mother and her soon; needs to be in New York on March 4 to be admitted to the bar. This record group contains canceled orders that were issued by the county commissioners for payment to be made by the county treasurer. The orders show date, order number, amount, name of payee, purpose, and signatures of the county commissioners. In the case of "poor children," teachers were reimbursed by the county for tuition and/or the supplies purchased for students whose parents were unable to pay. Orders include: Poor Children, Almshouse, Bridges, Coroners' Inquests, Prisons, Roads, Court House, and Tax Exonerations.
