Alfred Smith was a presidential candidate running against Herbert Hoover in 1928. Smith was a leader of the Progressive Movement and a "wet", or anti-prohibition candidate. He lost in a landslide.
Cast Iron Hubley Motorcycle with driver. Red "Indian" motorcycle with sidecar has a removable policeman with uniform, goggles, badge, sidearm, cap, boots and gloves. Cycle is painted red with silver handlebars, engine and highlights; sidecar seat is black. Decal on left side of gas tank has "Indian" on gold ground. Policeman is painted black with silver goggles, badge and buckle; face is pink. Three tires are marked "HUBLEY MFG CO. BALLOON" w/ size and "CORD". Metal "clicker" underneath. Sidecar policeman missing.
Moderate overall wear with soiling and significant scattered rusting and corrosion. All tires are flattened with some additional deformation.

Notes
Hubley Toy Company produced many different models, sizes and compositions of motorcycles during the years they were in production. Most of the motorcycles were based on Harley Davidson and Indian in the earlier years and then expanding to the BMW and perhaps others. Indian models are the most sought-after and have the highest value.
Green suede leather coin purse with machine-stitched seams on both sides. Flap folds down and closes with a silver snap and silver bead loops along edges.
Black knitted purse with vertical bands of clear beading, narrowing toward top where there are two horizontal strips of beading. Silver--colored metal frame with design of swirls. Bud-shaped clasps snap to open or close. Chain-link hand strap. Fabric lining is turquoise blue.
Blue suede leather coin purse with matching leather finger strap stitched at both ends on the back. Silver diamond-shapped snap on front in center of curved flap.
Knitted purse with vertical bands of gold beading, wide at bottom and narrowing toward top where beading is solid. Side loop gold bead fringes. Gold-colored metal frame with design of swirls. Bud-shaped clasps snap to open or close. Chain-link hand strap.
Some green corrosion on frame. Satin lining fragile with tears. Some missing beads on fringes. Some wear on bead on fringe and lower area of purse. Small envelope of detached beads.

Black knitted beaded drawstring bag. Purse is a single fabric, seamed on both sides. Trapezoid-shaped bag with alternating columns of narrow and wider vertical columns of black beads. Fringe of beaded loops at bottom. Beaded drawstring drawn through 8 beaded loops and knotted on one side to from hand strap.

Liberty Bell pendant medallion with Independence Hall on the back. Outline of bell has contoured image of Liberty Bell with inscription, crack and clapper. Inscription at top reads "OF LEV XXV&X PROCLAIM / IN PHILDA. BY ORDER OF TH--" and below this is "PASS AND STOW / PHILADA. / MDCCLIII."
Back is flat with a raised image of Independence Hall. Extended tab at top has hole with two linked wire rings for hanging.

One of two teacups. Inside of cup is lined with gold. Gilt decor forms a wide band on the exterior around the rim that and connects to and covers the handle and a vertical gilt band that connects to the flared foot. The body of the bowl is white with a flower and landscape hand-painted scene.

In 1995 the JBF staff assigned the Object ID W.95.69.2 to this Compote as a FIC probably because original paper records were not found.
In March 2023 the paper file has been found that identifies Lois Cassatt Thayer as the donor in 1935. Mrs. Thayer was the daughter to Alexander Cassatt and his wife, Maria Lois Buchanan Cassatt. Maria Lois Buchanan was the daughter to Rev. Dr. Edward Y. Buchanan, the youngest sibling to President James Buchanan.
Pastel-colored photo portrait of (Georg J.) "John" Obreiter on canvas frame. Mr. Obreiter looks to the viewer's left. His gray hair is parted on the left. He has blue eyes and a gray moustache. His shirt is white; tie, suit coat and vest are black.
Written in pencil on back upper left: "Gray Hair/ Eyes Blue/ Mustache Gray Mixed/ Complexion Fair/ Suit Dark." In center of canvas:"Pastell"
Georg Johann "John" Obreiter was born 10 May 1842 in German; and died 12 Aug 1926 in Lancaster, PA. He was married in Lancaster in 1866 to Elizabeth ("Betsey") Isenberger, a Lancaster native.
On right side of wooden frame on back: "Mrs. Obreiter, Maretta (sic) Ave."

One of three demitasse cups. Inside of cup is lined with gilt decor that extends over the cup's rim. The rim gilding connects to two vertical gilt bands and a band around the base forming a frame around varied handpainted landscape scenes; the cup handle is also gilded. The remainder of the outer body has a solid pink hue.

Eldridge was the daughter to Patty Lane Fay and the great niece to Harriet Lane Johnston. Patty Lane Fay was daughter to James Buchanan Lane, the first-born to Jane Buchanan Lane, President James Buchanan's sister.
Wedding bells on a curved spray of white flowers and a sprig of pink dogwood flowers on the right surround the information: "This certifies/ that/ Ralph W. Walters of West Fairview and Esther C. Sterringer of Lancaster,/ State of Pennsylvania/ were by me united/ in Holy Matrimony,/ According to the Ordinance of God and the Laws of the State/ of Pennsylvania/ At Lancaster, Pa. on the fourteenth day of February,/ in the year of our lord/ One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty One./ D.G.Glass, / Faith Reformed Church/ Witnesses:/ Mrs Lillian Sterringer."
