Description
These scrapbooks commemorate the centennial celebration of the founding of The Church of Our Father, a Unitarian church located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They illustrate the beliefs within the religion and the stance on evolution and science. The volumes contain newspaper clippings, church bulletins, event invitations, and congregation letters, both typed and handwritten. The church was involved in community efforts as well education, lectures and clubs. Some of the Unitarian organizations are also mentioned such as the American Unitarian Association, National League of Unitarian Laymen, Unitarian Laymen's League, and Men's Liberal Club. Prominent people within the church and religion that were mentioned were John B. Day, Rush and Zoë Shippen, Samuel Elliot, and Earl C. Davis. Others mentioned throughout the books were Milton T. Garvin, Nicholas Jozan, Arthur Coxon, Robert Sheridan Miller, Woodrow Wilson, Joseph Priestley, Henry Shippen, Edward Howard Griggs, Earnest Adams, Edward Reeman, Charles Riedel, Charles Henry Tucker, and Earl C. Davis. Some of the articles give historical context with subjects such as woman's suffrage and Woodrow Wilson.
Note: Loose newspaper articles have been photocopied. Both the photocopies and loose ephemera have been removed from the books and placed into separate folders to prevent further damage to the items.

Letter with biographical information about Miles Rock
Description
This letter from Capt. W. S. Crosley, Hydrographer, U.S. Navy, to Rep. Griest is a response to a letter from Griest to the Director, Geological Survey, Department of the Interior, in which he requested information about astronomer Miles Rock for Pierce Lesher in Lancaster. Crosley's letter provides biographical information about Mr. Rock.
Admin/Biographical History
Miles Rock (1840-1901) was "the son of Peter and Mary Graver Rock and stepson of Samuel Reemsnyder. In 1860 he was a student at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in West Chester, Chester County, June 4, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Camp Carroll, Baltimore, Maryland, July 26 as a private with Co. B, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves (30th Pennsylvania). On August 14, 1863, he transferred to the regular army with the U.S. Signal Corps, and honorably discharged on a date yet to be found, although typically the transferees int the U.S. Signal Corps left service ca. August 1865.
After the war, he graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in civil engineering and then taught mathematics and mineralogy. He married Susan Clarkson May 26, 1870, in Philadelphia and fathered Amy Cordoba (b. 04/25/1872 - married Frederick Leslie Ransome) and Alfred Mayer (b. 09/26/1877). He worked as an astronomer at the U.S. Naval Observatory and later became astronomical engineer for Guatemala, South America, making his home there. He died allegedly from "acute enterogastritis" following a heart attack. Source: Dennis Brandt.

The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
The George Steinman Papers, Series 1 contains an album, compiled by George Steinman, with many photographs of buildings, tombstones, monuments and scenes of Lancaster city and county. Ephemera and newspaper articles are among the photographs. Represented in the album are Postlethwaite's Tavern, hotels and taverns, fire houses, the Conestoga massacre, churches, cemeteries, Ephrata Cloister, prominent citizens and their homes, Stehli Silk Mill, and schools. The four boxes contain orginal correspondence, documents, photographs and ephemera or and pertaining to the same subject matter as the album.

Scrapbook of Grace Anna Brosius Biddle, 1926-1937. This scrapbook highlights Grace and Clement's involvement in the community and their international travel. Newspaper clippings describe Swarthmore College events, the Clement M. Biddle Historical Library, Boys Club Federation, Rotary Club, Community Chest campaign, Red Cross campaigns, Daylight Savings Bill, and an article from a Warsaw newspaper. The volume also contains ephemera, correspondence, telegrams, invitations, programs, and announcements regarding births, marriages, and deaths in the Biddle family.

Grace Anna Brosius was the daughter of Hon. Marriott Henry Brosius and Elizabeth Jackson Coates Brosius of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She attended Swarthmore College from 1895-1897. She married Clement Miller Biddle (1876-1959) on 28 November 1900 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Scrapbook appears to be the work of Thomas' son, Blanton Welsh. The volume was origianlly a record book for the Commonwealth Insurance Company, for which Thomas Welsh was an agent in Columbia. The scrapbook contains newspaper articles from the Columbia Spy, beginning with articles on the cholera epidemic of 1854, Welsh's cases as Justice of the Peace, and published war correspondence by Thomas Welsh under the names "Thirsty Squad" and "45". Blanton continued the scrapbook with newspaper articles about his father and sisters, and a lawsuit against him in 1930; his mother's obituary; his wedding announcement; his visiting cards; a letter from Lillie to Blanton; and letters to Thomas Welsh. Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. Description
Letter of condolence from J. E. Shomier to Major Blanton C. Welsh on the death of his sister Thomas. Letter contains sweet recollections not only of Shomier's respect for Thomas, but also his contacts with other members of the Welsh family through the years.
