Joseph Paxson Hambleton (20 June 1830 - 15 March 1906) - also shown as James P. Hambleton and Paxton J. Hambleton and J. Paxson Hambleton. Son of Elias and Martha Kinsey Hambleton. Buried Mt. Zion M.E. Cemetery, Lot #115 - parents were Quaker.
Front and back covers, and spine are worn and have red rot. Front cover is worn bare at corners, back cover is bare at places on edges and lower corner. A label with "LEDGER" is affixed to the spine.
Leaves have foxing and 1st leaf is unattached.

Daybook of Calwell & Thompson from Bart Township, Eden Township and Octorara.
Contains 267 leaves. Horizontal lines have been drawn to separate entries and some pages also contain vertical to record cash amounts.
"Calwell & Thompson; day book; 1809" and "Wm Thompson" are written on the outside of the front cover with a 2-1/2" stylized symbol. There are 6 faint lines of text on the outside of the back cover. The inside of the back cover contains accounting information.
Water damage to cover and page edges. Front cover is heavily worn and missing lower left corner (~3" measured on diagonal). Back cover is heavily worn and is missing ~2" diameter hole from middle edge and part of cover is bent back at upper part of hole. The body pages separated into 2 sections, one of which is not attached to the spine. Back leaf is missing top 6" and 2nd last leaf is missing the bottom 11".

NOTE: This is a combination Account and Day Book. The first part is an account book and the back part is a day book.
Contains 249 leaves plus an 22 page index. Covers are marbleized inside. The 1st leaf has accounting information written on it and the second leaf is blank. There are 2 separate paginations: The front pagination (pp. 1-390) is a listing of accounts of various customers. The back pagination (pp. 1-112 + 3 additional leaves and the first 2 leaves are p. 1) is a day book of daily transactions.
Three newspaper articles are glued to front leaves 2 and 3: Recipes for Raspberry Syrup, Blackberry Syrup, Current wine, White Wine, Elder Wine, Black Current Wine and Current Jelly; Acceptance letters of July 1850 Whig Candidates from Bucks County, and Selins Grove (sic), and Washington, Pa.

Robert Baldwin (1805-1888)
1827 - Robert Baldwin, school teacher came to Cains to reside at The Bull's Head.
1830 - Robert Baldwin and John Cains opened a store in Cains.
1843 - Robert Baldwin built his store and home on the corner of Cains Road and the Old Philadelphia Pike.
1849 - Robert Baldwin was elected to the State Legislature.
Book covers are worn, have red rot but are intact; two index tabs P-Q and R-S are missing. Pages have foxing. 15 leaves have been cut out or torn out: (pp. 4-5), (pp.18-27) and (pp.84-105).
The front third leaf is unattached.

There are 2 sections; a front and back separated by 39 blank leaves.
Contains 118 leaves, that includes 2 front leaves, 1 back leaf and a 12 leaf index. 1st page has "James Finly (sic)" written on it with some German writing. Body pages are partially paginated to page 24, are not ruled but have vertical accounting lines. 81 pages are blank including 78 middle pages and 3 front leaf pages.
Book references bushel of clover, whiskey, work performed at the mill, bushel of corn, bushel of rye, cash paid, hay, day of reaping, payment received, flour, cow, Cash lent, purchase of property from Henry McLaughlin (see p. 19), etc.

Front and back outside covers are marbleized and worn and the corners are worn bare. The Front outside cover has an ~2" diameter dark spot and the end outside cover has a 1/2" diameter bare spot.
Spine has red rot and an ~1/4" long section on the front edger worn bare.
Many pages have indication of water damage at the top center.
