He has heard that Abe Long wishes to be exempt from the draft and gives his opinion of Copperheads, support for the Union, and friends and cousins who are not serving. "It makes me feel bad to think that I am the only one of our kind that is in the service when I have so many Cousins and relatives at home that are just as able to go as I was." With transcription.

Reuben Clark Long enlisted 30 September 1861 and served as a private with the 79th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, Company E until his death at Chickamauga, Georgia on 19 September 1863.
