Letter from Alfred Pleasanton to Harriet Lane responding to her note acknowledging receipt of “Niagara trifles;” expressing happiness that James Buchanan was so well received in Philadelphia and is sure he will win Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey; doubting that Miss Cutts is marrying for love; distressed that his sisters Clemmie and Laura have taken up gambling; looking forward to Dan Rice’s circus; and offering his services to the campaign of her uncle.
