Letter from Harriet Lane to Lily Macalester enjoying a cottage rented by Mrs. Shapter far from London with a crashing ocean at her feet and refusing to leave when Uncle and Mr. Appleton called for her; mentioning the visit to London of the Corcorans and Louly, their child, and that Mr. C. is happy; commenting on the Queen’s visit to France; saying she and Uncle will depart for home on October 6, even though his successor has not been named; expressing her regrets in leaving such a beautiful country; coming visit to nearby Carisbrooke Castle; commenting on the health of Mrs. Plitt and her friendship with Mrs. Lathrop; and expressing astonishment at the adventures of Mrs. F. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Letter from J. B. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson expecting to hear in her next letter than her mother and the rest of the family are well; will send her a book of sermons he found enlightening; encloses a “funny” telegram from Mr. Scharff expressing concern that their boat and James Buchanan Henry were lost in a storm, based on a newspaper article; played a game of chess with Mr. Appleton and was beaten but hopes she will learn the game so that they can have “lovers’” games with long times between moves; and has seen nothing of her grandmother’s family since his last letter. Envelope with stamp removed and postmark addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. Washington, D.C.

Renunciations are papers filed in the Orphans' Court by executors of an estate who do not wish to administer that estate. They show the name of the decedent, the decedent's place of residence, the name of the person renouncing administration, the name of the replacement administrator to be appointed, and date. The relationship between the decedent, the executor, and the administrator is usually shown. Arranged chronologically and then alphabetically within each year.
