Conserved by CCAHA in 1989 (see report in file). Hinged into window mat & back mat. Relaced in its original frame using UF-3 Plexiglas and acid-free cardboard on reverse with a taped mylar dust shield.

Three leaves of family record pages of the Long family Bible have penwork by Francis Blum, David C. Hoke and Thomas J.Stevens.
P.94.15.02 A: Printed on the front side only, this page is dominated by a huge gold wedding ring and other symbols of marriage. Entries made in ink script state that William Long and Ella E. Shimp were married in East Petersburg, on March 4, 1900, by A.S. Hottenstein.
P94.15.02 B: Framed page shows both sides. Front side repeats marriage info of William and Ella (E. Shimp) Long, done in pen work of Francis Blum whose name is written at the bottom of the page. Elaborately decorated "W" initial letter of William Long. This oversize letter dominates the page. Blum uses various styles of lettering for remaining entries. Decoration is done in red and black ink as well as watercolor.
The reverse side lists the births of William and Ella Long and their five children (Norman S., Mary Edna, Raymond S., William S., and C. Earl Long). The first 3 names are by Blum, but the last two children's entries are done in different hands; William is done by David C. Hoke and Earl is done by Thomas J. Stevens. Signed at the bottom "David C. Hoke, Lititz, Pa., June 21, 1910".
P94.15.02 C: Front side has heading "DEATHS", reverse has "MEMORANDUM". No entries on either side.
Pages have ragged edges where torn from Bible; overall acid burn with some dark stains and soiling; reverse side of page C has residue and paper loss at bottom left corner and top right corner.

Fraktur-style birth certificate for Heinrich F. Eshbach done on white, rectangular paper with a vertical orientation. Drawn in pen and ink and decorated with polychrome paints in a nearly symmetrical design. From and layout suggest influence of Samuel Bentz and other fraktur artists.
Framing the text block at the sides are two columns decorated w/ vining plant with berries growing out of plinths and rising to the top where six ball shapes are arranged in horizontal design. Below the text block is a large central flower flanked by a pair of smaller flowers. Below these is a very unusual butterfly with hairy wings and feet and a face. The painting is handled inexpertly in a sloppy fashion and unevenly applied. Color are blue, red, green and a brownish yellow.
The text block is in German and state that Heinrich F. Eschbach was born the 29th of September, 1854, in Lancaster Twp., Lancaster County, to his parents Christian and Anna Eschbach. The last three lines appear to be a religious blessing or Bible verse....
The text is done in iron gall ink in a somewhat uneven hand. To nearly every downstroke of each letter, the penman has a a diagonal tail of double pen strokes giving the effect of shading or shadowing.
Original wood back on revers has the signature "Benjamin C. Eshbach" written in ink of adhesive tape.

Paper is buckled (especially at top) and somewhat embrittled. Significant soiling at top in vertical streaks. Multiple stains/foxing overall, darkest stains at perimeter, including a moisture stain at bottom right corner. Accretions from frame attached to top edge and left edge. Original wood back board replaced with common matboard (acid-free tissue used as buffer). Frame has original finish which is nicked and scratched in many places, most significantly at center of right member and a large scratch to right of center on bottom member.
On heavy tan paper is a printed certificate of appreciation in German to Martin Haug for his service as Sunday School superintendent from 1891-1904. Certificate has a decorative gold border, inset from edges of paper. At top of border is a scrolling banner with Christ's words, translated: "Let the children come unto me."Center white field has text block entitled "Ehranzengniss". Infill in printed form includes the name of M. Haug, dates of service, name of church: St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and location: Columbia, PA. At bottom are signatures of pastor: J. George Bommann, Superintendent: Fred Schlaeger, and Secretary: Fred Schleeger. In bottom corners are color scenes of Christ as a 12-year-old child in the Jerusalem Temple and one depicting his welcoming the children to come to him.

Chromolithograph printed German language B&BC for Andres Satorius Haug, born 18 July 1886 in Columbia, PA to parents Martin Haug and wife Susanna, nee Bolt. Baptism was 14 Aug 1886 by Rev. J.A. Darmstaetter at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Columbia. Sponsors were Peter and Maria Schaub.
On tan paper, printed form has full color with elaborately decorated borders with scenes of the Bible at bottom corners and a 19th century baptism. Small field has printed text with infill. At very bottom is "Published by Schafer & Koradi, S.W. 4th & Wood Sts., Phila."

Printed and hand-decorated Haus Segen is a 3-heart form on wove paper. Unable to detect if outlines of the 3 hearts are printed and painted over with heavy paint or if this is free hand work or traced. Outline on large central heart is black; two small ones are red.
Text block in large heart begins "Haus= Segen" followed by 9 lines of a house blessing in German. Between title and text is a small tailpiece of angels. Below the text is another tailpiece of a robed woman holding a shield with an anchor and "IN GOD / WE HOPE". Below tailpiece is the imprint "Gedruckt und zu haben bei / Isaac Palm, / Brecknock Taunschip, / Lancaster Co. / 1860."
Each small heart has a printed stanza. Remaining paint decoration is uses very thick, dark paints of red, yellow and black to create the conventional printed motifs such as used by Ephrata printer Samuel Baumann (2004.742).. Decoration consists of flowers at top, birds at sides, running stags in lower corners and two large flowers at bottom center. Printed line border across very bottom.

Fraktur has been inexpertly trimmed all four sides. Minor foxing and light brown stains & soil. Three cellophane tape mends on tears at bottom have bled through, creating dark brown stains. Bottom is esp. ragged with losses at 4 main areas, most significantly the lower right corner and 4" to left of corner. Paper has moderate wrinkling. Some paint loss, particularly the large red & black bird above stag. Back has areas with tape and glue residue.
Rev. Fred Weised noted that it is worth it to restore this piece.

Isaac Palm is not listed by Klaus Stopp in his multi-volume set, The B&BCs of the German Americans.
Census of 1880 and 1900 show Isaac Z. Palm lived with his parents Daniel & Nancy in Brecknock Twp. his whole life with no occupation listed. Daniel Palm was listed as a blacksmith in 1880 and a mechanic in 1900.
Isaac's Death Certificate shows Isaac Z. Palm was born 31 Dec.1842 died 26 Aug 1906 and was buried Bowmansville Union Cemetery. He was 63 yrs. 7 mos. old at death and single. Informant John Z. Palm notes father was Daniel and mother was "Zerlee", apparently her maiden name.
Why did Isaac remain a dependent? If Isaac printed this 1860 fraktur, he would likely have been only 17 yrs. of age (not 18 until Dec. 31)..
Color-printed Marriage Certificate on heavy tan paper. Inside border on brown field is an overarching banner with "Jesus Christus along with 3 bible verses. Surround a white field with text are 5 color scenes in circles and ovals along with flowers. Text block has a small angel with putti flanked by "Traus" and "Schein" (Marriage Certificate). Infilled in cursive with black ink. Bridal couple are Joseph W. Houk and Marie A. Schleeger, both of Columbia, married 30 June 1902 in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbia. Witnesses were Martin Schwarz, Louis Schleeger, Frederick Schleeger and August Witte. It is signed at the bottom "Harrisburg den 5ten Februar 1902 / Eduard H. Paar, / Ev. Luth. Pastor." Below the outside border is "No. 104" at left and "Verlag von Ernst Kaufmann, 330 Pearl Street, New York." at right. Reverse side has "White & gilt / 85" written in pencil.

Family register hand-lettered in black and red, with bronze/gold highlights, all within a frame-like band border filled with decoration including rosettes in corners. Executed for an Old Order Amish family by either John G. Doell or Elizabeth K. Beiler. In a modern frame.
Heading at top reads "The Family of / of [sic] my Father Noah Fisher / He was born on the 14th day of February, 1853 / and my Mother Catharine (Katie) Fisher. / She was born on the 28th day of January 1850." The register gives birthdates of the seven children. Toward bottom is the heading "Deaths" followed by 2 death dates, for Amos (1887) and a stillborn daughter (1894).
Near bottom reads "This was written on the 21st day of September in the Year 1901./for Emma Fisher". Roses drawn in bottom corners.
John Doell was "English" and appears to have worked exclusively among eastern Lancaster Co. Amish families, penning book plates, family records, etc. He likely traveled throughout the communities offering his services. Mennonite historian/collector, Amos Hoover, owner of Muddy Creek Farm Libray, notes that Doell came to America in 1857 and died in Zion's Home in 1908.
Doell's work is similar to Amish artist Elizabeth K. Beiler (see McCauleys' Dec. Arts of the Amish of Lancaster Co., p. 125.)

Rectangular piece of brown wove paper has the manuscript name "Susie B Fisher" in upper half of page. The inked letters are water-colored with red, orange, and blue stripes, and the three upper case letters are decorated with a vining filigree of roses. A small bird hovers in flight above the first "S". Still visible are two horizontal lines penciled in by the artist to guide the size of his lower case lettering. Centered below the name, at mid-page, are two drooping red tulips.
Attributed to Elizabeth K. Beiler or John Doell who also penned the 1901 family register of Noah and Catharine (Katie) Fisher (P89.07.4). Their style is extremely similar and they were working in approx. the same period.
Also in this collection is a needlework family register (P89.07.3) done by Susie Fisher (assumed to be the subject of this fraktur).

Birth and baptismal certificate lithographed in German by Augustus Kollner of Phila. is infilled for the Frankhausser (Frankhauser) family of East Cocalico Twp. Image is colored with yellow border and smaller details in blues and pink. Frame is walnut veneer on flat, angled profile.
Titled "Geburts- und Taufschein", the vertical design on wove paper (14 1/4" x 10 1/4") features elaborate foliate scrolling along architectural sides & base borders, culminating in a leafy broken arch at top, flanked by putti & verses from the gospel of Matthew. Under arch is a nativity scene and within niches at side columns are two men, apparently John the Baptist at left and Jesus at right. Jesus' baptism is pictured within architectural border at bottom, flanked with religious verse. Printed at bottom is "For Sale by Augs. Kollner, corner of Second & Dock Sts. Phil.a / Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1849, by Augs. Kollner, in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pa."
German text is printed within open center area; infilled by unknown scrivener in a large, flowing script that contains several spelling errors. To Heinrich Frankhauser and his wife Marie nee Leath was born a son John Lamon the 7th of April, 1854 in East Cocalico Twp. He was baptized the 5th of October, 1854 by Pastor Ries and sponsored by the parents. (Rev. Charles Reese was the pastor 1852-1857 at Muddy Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ellis & Evans, p. 713).

Most Frankhausers were living in Brecknock Twp. during the late 1800s. The 1864 ATLAS has two properties labeled "H. Frankhauser", one SE of Napierville (E. Cocalico) & one SE of Muddy Creek (Brecknock) (See file). The 1890 Directory has widow Maria F. living in Muddy Creek.
Printer was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1813, studied painting & lithography & emigrated to Phila. in 1839 or 1840. He was active independently as a lithographer before 1849 & an artist in watercolor until the 1870s. From 1849-1951 he was associated with the German printer Johann Henry Camp.
