Description
Letter to Henry E. Johnston from George Ticknor Curtis stating that he was unable to include an engraving of Mrs. Johnston (or Miss Lane as she then was) in the first volume of Buchanan’s biography for various reasons. The book will be illustrated by two engravings of Buchanan, one by Sartain and another by Buttré, and by a woodcut of Wheatland. Typed on onion-skin paper with manuscript note at end. New York.

Swarr stating that he has a temporary address with Mr. Cassatt at Haverford College; noting that Elliott Eskridge Lane was pleased to receive interest on interest, but had trouble withdrawing the money until Edward Young Buchanan added the word “guardians” after his and Swarr’s names; approving Mr. Ancona to have use of the Buchanan Scholarship, assuming that Swarr thinks the young man “proper and deserving”; thanking Swarr for the $23.50 pertaining to Harriet Lane Johnston’s trust fund; and surmising that Mr. Curtis, who is now at Richfield Springs, will bring out the biography before long. 1342 Pine Street, Philadelphia.

One of two Louis XVI upholstered armchairs. Both chairs have gilt and bronze beading and foliate ornament décor on their crests, arms, uprights and aprons. All four legs are surmounted by foliate-decorated blocks transitioning to an urn-shape and ring and beaded ball turnings. They transition to reeds in the middle tapering to additional ring and ball turnings that terminate on brass casters.
One of two Louis XVI upholstered armchairs. Both chairs have gilt and bronze beading and foliate ornament décor on their crests, arms, uprights and aprons. All four legs are surmounted by foliate-decorated blocks transitioning to an urn-shape and ring and beaded ball turnings. One of two side chairs that loosely follows the 18th century Louis XVI design. Both chairs have gilt bronze beading and foliate ornament outlines on the back crest and horizontal shaped-splat while highlighting the apron and ring turning of the front legs. The seats are upholstered.
