Finely crafted miniature copper teakettle with tinned interior. Classic late 18th-early 19th c. kettle shape with round body, goose neck spout, hinged arched handle and fitted domed lid with globular knop.
Keyed/dovetail joint at back side. Handle attached to riveted tabs with elongated tomahawk bases. Fits in oval tin box G.00.03.2.

Wrought iron can opener fashioned from .25" thick flat iron bar. Long flat handle ends with a scrolled-under terminal; other end is a bifurcated functional head with curving fulcrum and sharpened blade.
Stamped on top surface of handle in large letters is "P.E.WILL." See Notes
Minor pitting and corrosion, but surface is generally smooth and polished. Blad has considerable wear.

Notes
MG-332, Folder 1 has materials about P.E. Will, noting he erected a shop in 1892. His obituary states "Phares E. Will died at his home in Penryn on Monday am aged 65 yres. 5 mos. and 1 day. He was ill with pneumonia for his last 2 weeks. He was a blacksmith for more than 40 years.
Will was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Penryn. He is survived by wife Sarah Jane Williams Will, also his father Elias P. Will and brother Thaddeus of Lititz. He was buried in Penryn cemetery.
There is an image of the blacksmith shop & residence in Folder #1, insert #49.
Findagrave gives bio: "P. E. Will operated a blacksmith shop in Penryn, PA. He was renowned In Lancaster County as one of the best craftsman around the area. He made hand-forged tools such as meat forks, cooking turners, ladles, tobacco shears, and tobacco spears. His tools were stamped "P E Will" and are highly sought at auctions.
Mr. Will also sold Studebaker wagons from his shop. His shop was clean and orderly. At his shop all the race horses which ran on the Speedwell track were shod. Will also shod horses at Mount Gretna for the National Guard who camped there.
He had a rack/cage for shoeing unruly horses which he invented. He used a special foot rest for the horses instead of holding the horses hoof on his knee. In a 1926 interview, Mr. Will stated that he had placed more than 200,000 shoes on horses during his career as a blacksmith.
Mr. Will was also known as an author and local historian. He was a contributer of Penryn news."

Heavy tarnish overall. Moderate scratching. Slightly dented in center of and below engraving. Small nicks on rim of lid. Minor corrosion where handle and thumb piece connect to body and on bottom. Some polish residue in crevices.
Ironstone china fish platter; long rectangular white molded specialized dish with a realistic overglaze painting of a large fish filling the recessed center of the platter. Rounded corners and ends of platter. Raised decoration is an identical design of scrolled roping from which hangs a flower and two branches of leaves extending sideways. Bottom has a conforming foot ring and center ridge, both unglazed. Impressed mark on bottom is "B.S." over "M." within a square with clipped corners.
Sugar bowl with lid, hard-paste eathenware has white clay body hand-decorated with cobalt blue. Squat, bulbous body sits on foot ring; pot-belly sides have a large beaded shoulder leading to a narrowed neck and finishing with an outward flaring rim w/ coggled edge. Four or five blue bands painted while on the wheel and remainder painted freehand. Bulbous section alternates with two different leaf designs suspended from the blue-painted shoulder bead. Large round dots are spaced between each leaf. Coggled edge is blue and top of rim has a leaf form painted in two rows. The domed lid has a bee skep finial painted blue, a wide blue strip at botom edge of lid and four leaves in mid-section of same two designs as on bulbous body. Clear glaze over all.
Small "S" impressed underneath at side, perhaps signifying the potter.
Good 3/8" long chip at coggled rim edge showing a very white clay which suggest a later date. Wear and soil at bottom and soil scattered over entire piece. Overall crazing.

Miniature cruet set of four bottles and caddy, clear glass and non-ferrous base metal.
Four tall vial-like, clear glass bottles, one with its metal cap. Bottles appear to be mold-blown, cylindrical and have a pronounced ring extending outward at mid point, a long narrowing neck and flared lip. Bottles fit into a rotating metal carrying ring at midpoint of caddy, suspended by their glass protruding ring. An oval ring handle on stem with threaded end fits into female-threaded pedestal base which flares out toward bottom.
A raised letter "W" appears twice underneath base.

Wrought iron, two-tine meat fork. Long narrow handle of flat bar stock, except for one short round section near tines end. Handle end is rounded, with hanging hole. Heavily decorated with semi-circles along edges of top, like scalloping. Stamped "H. R. EBY" near midpoint.
Two tines are rounded and curved down and back up as viewed from side. Tines have a rectilinear "U" shape configuration with sharp corners at shoulders.

Sketch box made of brown alligator skin / leather over wood. Flat rectangular base w/ raised section at right end has two sunken containers. Top one is oval with ornate raised decoration on hinged silver(?) lid; beaded oval trim at base marked "PAT. March. 25.90." Oval well lined with suede. Lower container has alligator-covered round hinged lid leading to another hinged metal lid leading to a small ink jar within.
Place of origin is unknown.
Large part is a padded alligator-covered lid hinged at top. Underside of lid has pouches of light brown leather. Writing/sketching surface has a blue paper blotter secured by leather corners. Leather loop at hinge holds a metal pen decorated with raised beaded rings.
Inscription on underside is pencil script: "From Charles / Xmas 1890". Alongside is a sticker with name and address of donor.

Donor acquired this and many other Mifflin pieces from the Mifflin estate and, then donated it to the Heritage Center in 1995.

Tin candle mold with 2 rows of 4, mounted on a raised rectangular base. The 8 molds incline toward each other at their tips and are soldered together for strength. Wire finger ring attached to one side of base and large looped strap handle at other side.

Copper sculpting/modeling tool hand fashioned to create a flattened, spoon-like handle leading to a rounded shank ending in another flattened end bent at the tip to create a short 1/2" extension bent to nearly a right angle for working in clay or plaster. End is squared off. Crude but effective tool for sculpting bears marks of hammering, especially underside of flattened handle. Used by Lloyd Mifflin. Tool presumed to have been fashioned by Lloyd Mifflin himself from a length of copper. Provenance: Mifflin to the Minnich sisters to the groundskeeper at Norwood to donors.
Paperweight or keepsake of carved white marble has a carved reclining sheep, done in bas relief, is lying on a narrow ledge on an inch-thick slab of marble resembling a curved top tombstone. Incised name in block letters below the sheep: "E. M. Howell." Bottom edge below name is relieved with a carved cupid's bow design.
Attributed to Charles M. Howell (4-24-1814 to 4-10-1903).

Howell's Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church and he passed them out as Christmas gifts. Great grandson Dick Witmer states E.M. Howell is certainly Howell's wife Elizabeth Michael who Charles married in 1841. She died 10-22-1877.
Howell was an important in business and civic affairs. He operated a marble yard on N. Queen St. in Lancaster. Other carvings by Howell's employee,
Augustus Beck, are extant. Dick's brother Bob Witmer removed these large carvings (of lions?) that had been at the corner of a Howell residence at East Chestnut and Cherry Sts. to his home outside the city. Additional small carvings are reportedly owned by Lancaster collector Gene Charles.
Paperweight or keepsake of carved white marble has a 3-D carved reclining sheep reclining on a half-inch-thick rectangular base, secured with a screw on underside. Base has chamfered top edges. Thin sheet of red rubber glued to underside of base.

Balance-type scale, body of cast iron, flat pan of bronze and large scoop-shaped pan of copper. Two large weights of bronze and six smaller weights of cast iron housed in pine box.
Scale (A) has heavy cast iron base supporting a pivoting/balancing armature. One end of armature has flat, round, brass pan while opposite end has four fingers of iron supporting a detachable copper pan shaped like a large oval scoop with a rolled edge. Base has remnants of original red paint and gold striping. "Fairbanks" is embossed on top of both sides of central base section. Brass plate near center of armature reads: "Pat'd. Dec. 18, 1877."
Eight weights are as follows:
(B & C) Two circular disks marked "2" at top center, signifying 2 lbs.
(D) One cast iron weight, pie-shaped, with embossed "1" at top center, signifying 1 lb. Lead infill stamped "S" on bottom.
(E) One cast iron weight, pie-shaped, with impressed "8" at top center, signifying 8 oz. Bottom has small lead infill, unmarked.
(F) One cast iron weight, pie-shaped, with embossed "4" at top center, signifying 4 oz.
(G) One cast iron weight, pie-shped, with embossed "2" at top center, signifying 2 oz.
(H) One cast iron weight, pie-shaped, with embossed "1" at top center, signifying 1 oz.
(I) One cast iron weight, pie-shaped, with embossed "1/2" at top center, signifying a half oz.
(J) Square, finger-jointed pine box, used for housing the eight weights.
Provenance
Donor states scale was used in the candy department at Woolworth's store on North Queen Street. It was later acquired by the family. Donor recalls that her mother Florence E. Werner Cohen (1895-1994) used the scales extensively for baking in her home since she sold baked goods at her Central Market stand.

This scale has a removable pan for scooping merchandise such as candy. Disc weights determined the weight of goods by counterbalanceing on the opposing flat pan. This balance scale was used in the candy department of Woolworth's and then at home for measuring backing ingredients.

Thimble of miniature but conventional shape, cast, non-ferrous alloy with silvery plating.
Child-sized thimble has very indistinct indentations on domed top and upper 2/3 of sides and a plain band on lower third. Rim at bottom has a pronounced raised edge. Vertical casting seams on opposite sides. Inscriptions: Each side of plain band has raised lettering with "FOR A/ GOOD GIRL."

Needle and pin case in sun bonnet form with off-white finely woven sheer cotton or silk. Rigid visor of light cardboard is covered with fabric and folds at top. Cap section is gathered at neck. Trimmed with four pink satin bows and a strawberry of emory covered with silk and embroidery on short string at crown. Metal snap closure inside visor.
Interior of visor has attached strip of twill wool with sawtooth edge. Pins and needles are inserted and stored in this fabric.

Commercial circular card of glass-head straight pins. Two layers of heavy textured buff-colored paper are pressure-molded around a central disk of unknown solid substance. Pins are anchored into this paper card in a radiating configuration. Top of card has a printed circular orange band reading: "40 FINEST GLASS-HEAD PINS" with adjacent "MADE IN GERMANY" in small print. Card has missing pins; 30 steel pins with multicolored spherical glass heads remain.
Reverse side has "Kiker" hand printed in ink.
