This collection contains papers and local government records related to Black history in Lancaster County, including an index to Lancaster County's register of enslaved persons, Mayor's Register of Coloured Persons or Negro Entry Book, and a biographical account of Rev. James William Charles Pennington. There are official records for enslaved persons and their children in Lancaster County, as well as freemen within Lancaster City. The collection also contains a manumission paper from the state of Virginia, a certificate for free persons of color, and letters from anit-slavery societies.

Series 1 consists of the "Slave Registers," official county records registering enslaved women and their children after 1780.
Series 2 contains the "Mayor's Register of Coloured Persons," a manumission paper, correspondence, and other records.

Yeates, Lancaster County Historical Society Collection provides insight into the Yeates family, local social history, and details of legal business from 1743-1870. These documents have been collected by the Lancaster County Historical Society over many years. James Fleming Smith, son of Isaac Smith and Margaret Fleming, was born in 1807 in Lancaster County and died in 1854 in Wrightsville, York County. He married Elizabeth Schall, 3 September 1845, and had one child, Howard Persifor Smith, born in 1872.

The Hon. Alexander H. Hood was a noted attorney in Lancaster. His daughter, Bernarda, married A. Ross Black, and lived in Strasburg, Lancaster County.

The Ada M. Cochran and Bertha Cochran Landis Collection contains letters written to Ada M. The Tobias Bowman Papers contain letters and documents of Tobias Bowman of Bowmansville, Brecknock Township, from 1863 to 1898.
Admin/Biographical History
Tobias Bowman was born 30 March 1837, the son of Isaac Bowman and Judith Gehman of Bowmansville. He was self-educated, wrote letters in both English and German and acted as a scribe for neighbors. He was interested in local and family history. He died 4 March 1906 and is buried at Bowmansville Mennonite Church.

This collection contains genealogical data, Civil War Widow's Pension receipts, Lancaster city tax receipts of the family of John and Catharine Robinson, an affidavit of the birth of Anna Duke Krauskop, and an itinerary and program of the Liberty Bell's journey to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915.

John Robinson (1826-1866) married Catharine Burns on 9 March 1851. Their daughter, Susan (b. 1851), married Lewis Krauskop. John Robinson served in Co. B, First Pennsylvania Reserves, in the Civil War.
