The Pirates Club began as the Shad Choir Club in Lancaster around 1910. This fraternal organization had regular shad dinners and field trips called "cruises". The organization is still active in Lancaster.

"[This work serves as a] reference for American servicewomen's history and uniforms of WWII, and is designed for scholars of women's or military history, veterans, collectors, re-enactors and others interested in the history and dress of servicewomen on active military service. The Barney Ewell Collection contains a program of athletic events celebrating Barney Ewell's achievements, newspaper articles, a postcard, and a dedication program for the installation of a state historical marker.
Admin/Biographical History
Henry Norwood "Barney" Ewell (1918-1996) was born in Harrisburg and lived in Lancaster for most of his life. He won the U.S. junior sprint title in high school and made a name for himself with many other athletic achievements. As a college athlete at Penn State University, Ewell won NCAA titles in 100-meter and 200-meter sprints in 1940 and 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and returned home to win more national titles in the long jump and earned his B.S. at Penn State.
Ewell, at age 30, finally had his chance to compete with the best athletes in the world at the 1948 Olympic Games which were held in London. He earned a place on the U.S. track team and won a gold medal in the 400-meter relay. He also received silver medals in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
After the Olympics, Ewell returned to Lancaster. He and his wife, Duella, raised their family on Rockland Street in Lancaster City and later moved to Green Street. The Lancaster City directories list him as an employee of several businesses throughout his lifetime, including Coatesville Steel.

Summary
The Amish have always struggled with the modern world. Known for their simple clothing, plain lifestyle, and horse-and-buggy mode of transportation, Amish communities continually face outside pressures to modify their cultural patterns, social organization, and religious world view. An intimate portrait of Amish life, The Amish explores not only the emerging diversity and evolving identities within this distinctive American ethnic community, but also its transformation and geographic expansion.
In Part 1, Goodling writes a concise history with illustrations from the township's earliest days to the end of the 19th century. It lists churches and schools, post offices, trades and businesses and the military. Part II is a genealogical and biographical record of all families living in the township and nearby areas at the time of the 1860 U.S. Census. Supplement Part 1 describes the churches of the township and appendices. Supplement Part 2 contiues the appendices.
