Letter from Col. H. Kyd Douglas to Harriet Lane Johnston recounting his attendance at Buchanan’s inauguration as part of an escort from Franklin & Marshall College and his subsequent graduation with a diploma signed by the President, his presence at the John Brown raid, his wounds and the kindness of Henry E. Johnston, and commanding the brigade which fired the last Confederate shot at Appomattox. Envelope addressed to Mrs. Harriet Lane Johnston, Washington, D.C., with 2-cent stamp attached. Written on the envelope: “A beautiful interesting letter from Col. H. Kid Douglas Ans. Feb 14, 97”. Hagerstown, Maryland.

Forney at the Fulton Opera House during the Hancock campaign in which he referred to Forney leaving the Democratic party and himself leaving the Union, both “only to return later.” Hagerstown, Maryland.

Sheraton-inspired mahogany veneer night table with satinwood inlay accents that outline the apron, drawer and keyhole, as well as the legs. The table top has eight sides and surmounts four saber legs that also support a lower inward-curved shelf.
Summons to James Crawford from William McCausland to appear in the office of James Hopkins for the purpose of giving a deposition as a witness for the plaintiff. Lancaster.

Buchanan listing baptisms, marriages, burials, etc. by date; includes dates, places, and texts of sermons, etc. One volume bound in marbled paper with leather spine 105, [3] pages. Removed from endpaper a note by Edward Young Buchanan calculating the length of his marriage to his “darling wife A E.” 31 October 1875-7 April 1891.
