The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.

Summary
These softbound volumes contain records of payments owed to winners of court cases against certain banks. Index at front lists banks mentioned. Each bank list includes names of parties involved, court term, date, case number, amount owed by bank and record of judgment and/or payment. Each list is arranged chronologically by court term and date.
From cover letter: "official transcripts of the Lancater County Court's special sessions om September 17 and 18, 1987 [sic] to commemorate the bicentennial of the signing of the United States Constitution."

Summary
One hardbound volume and one softbound volume, each containing lists of cases showing court term, the names of the parties, the attorneys, cause of action, and charge. Possibly cases appealed and sent to the appellate court. Handwritten.
Writs from appellate courts directing the Court of Common Pleas to send all documents relating to cases appealed to them. Show names of parties in the case, attorneys, and judges. The documents sent to and returned from the higher court are usually attached. These documents could include charges, depositions, and findings. May also include a list of exceptions from the higher court giving its reasons for overturning the lower court's decision. Arranged chronologically by court session, and therein by case number. Handwritten, and handwritten on printed forms.

Summary
Papers filed with the Court of Common Pleas during all proceedings of a civil case. Civil cases are non-criminal cases usually involving property rights, such as divorce, but also include injury and worker's compensation cases. Records may include pleadings, depostitions, commissions and interrogatories, warrants of attorney in every action, notes of testimony, reports of auditors, assignees, court rulings. Photographs and other forms of evidence may appear with the records. Documents show names of parties, dates, case number, and nature of plea.
