Bookcase composed of two sections. Cabinet with glass doors at top and cabinet with wooden doors at bottom. Two glass doors have square mullions holding the panes. Doors give access to moveable shelves inside. Two doors at bottom of each have simple rectangular recessed panels.

Bookcases sold to Meredith in 1845 by Potter then Meredith sold them to James Buchanan in 1848. Letter dated 9/27/1848 to Buchanan from Meredith: 'In addition to the $6750 which you mention, I paid Mr. Potter for the bookcases in the library, I think $75.00.'
Gold brooch with glass cover encasing 2-3 locks of braided hair and one wisp of hair on back of brooch. Engraving on brooch reads: "Mary aged 10 months; Jennie aged 3 years, 2 months, 12 days; Willie aged 1 year, 2 months, 3 days."
These were the first three of seven children to James B & Martha J. Lane, to which Harriet Lane was aunt.

A gold ball-shaped pendant on a gold chain. The pendant has several openings revealing the locks of hair, whose hair it belonged to and the year of their death: Mother 1839, Father 1840, Mary 1855, Eskridge 1857 and James 1863.

Two-piece sauceboat with curved gilt bird neck/head handle. Gilt decor tapers along rim; body has a wide pink band bordered by another gilt band with a white glazed bdy below terminatiing in a gilt flared foot. The tear drop-shaped plate is separate. Rim is gilded bordered by wide pink band bordered by second gilt band. Center of plate is glazed white with recessed center for boat foot.
