The Geist Family Papers include correspondence, tax records, legal documents, and other items related to the Geist family. Some correspondence is personal, while other letters relate to legal proceedings concerning estates and inheritances. Description
This collection contains a flight instruction book and notes and pilot log books of Paul L. Schlotzhauer (1903-1992), as well as information and ephemera about the Hotel Pennsylvania on North Queen Street in Lancaster, the Sclotzhauer Bakery and the Schlotzhauer family.
Admin/Biographical History
Paul L. Schlotzhauer was born in Lancaster in 1903, son of Harry Schlotzhauer and Katharine Vollmer Schlotzhauer. He became proprietor of the Hotel Pennsylvania on North Queen Street, Lancaster, in 1921, and in 1929 moved to New York City where he took flying lessons from the Curtiss Wright Corporation. He returned to Lancaster and flew air mail between Lancaster, Reading, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the 1930s and 1940s. He later moved to Florida where he died in 1992.
