Wentworth Higginson- in his "Cheerful Yesterdays-" published in the Atlantic Monthly (and wisely republished in permanent book form- .1899), fell into the easy error of recording that the death of a United States Marshal's deputy, named Batch- elder, in one of the Faneuil Hall anti- slavery riots in 1854
