A writ of habeas corpus is a procedure for obtaining a judicial determination of the legality of an individual's custody. This collection includes petitions for writs of habeas corpus and the writs themselves, showing the names of petitioners, persons to be brought to court, nature of dispute or alleged crime, dates of writs and accompanying documents, names of judges, and names of persons that the writs are filed against. Petitioners include indentured servants, Freedom Seekers, free persons of color, convicted prisoners, those awaiting trial, relatives of prisoners, parties in child custody disputes, and relatives of army recruits and draftees.

Picture of a newspaper clippiing that appeared in the Lancaster New Era of two pictures - A Country Miller and the Country Miller's Wife. Description as follows: Country Miller, attired in a typical mid 18th century clothing of sull-sleeved blouse wih no collar, long vest, loose pants that fall to just below the knees and wide-brimmed hat, is captured in this drawing by Mrs. Freda Fitz. Millers Wife went about her colonial duties usually outfitted in a mob cap, long skirt and loose-fitting blouse, and a fichu which was a piece of material worn around the shoulders and tucked into or pinned to the front of her apron.

A four post bed dressed in a tradtional manner (style). Beds of this style were made of walnut or curly maple wood. The chair at the side of the bed is a typical comb back Windsor.
Foot warmer - Explanation on a slip of paper attached to picture: "The demand for foot warmers in colonial times was obviously very high for so many examples have survived until today. This example fortunately retains the small circular pan which held the hot coals. Courtesy, Florence John Antiques."
