One of two Louis XVI upholstered armchairs. Both chairs have gilt and bronze beading and foliate ornament décor on their crests, arms, uprights and aprons. All four legs are surmounted by foliate-decorated blocks transitioning to an urn-shape and ring and beaded ball turnings. They transition to reeds in the middle tapering to additional ring and ball turnings that terminate on brass casters.

Letter from Harriet Lane Johnston to Mary Speer containing family gossip including the health of Mary’s father, the white pudding (which Henry Morris tried and failed to like, as did Harriet’s family); [son] Harry is out all day in the goat wagon and never feels tired and she hopes great improvement to report when Da Costa comes; Chand Black just left; futile attempts to send cherries to Mary, Bessie, and Carrie; son Harry is saving material of the assassinated President [Garfield]; inviting them to Wheatland with Mr. Speer as well.
