Christiana Tsai was the daughter of the governor of Nanjing, China. She attended a Christian school there that was run by Charles and Lucy Leaman, missionaries from Lancaster County, PA. She became active in Christian work in China and later came to live in Paradise, PA. She has been referred to as "Queen of the Dark Chamber" because of her need to spend much of her time in darkened rooms due to a medical condition.
