This journal article of 1914 laments the demolition of the historic Shippen family home at the northwest corner of the intersection of Lime and Orange streets in Lancaster,Pa. He gives a history of several other buildings in Lancaster which have disappeared as well over the years, though he writes in most detail about the Shippen house and the various people who have lived there.

This article provides documentation of slaves being passed to heirs in wills . Also presented are advertisements of slaves for sale and requests for the return of "eloped" slaves. Reviewed as well is slave involvement with churches, as there is evidence of their baptism and burials at churches.
