Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson apologizing for not writing on schedule but while they are in the country the regular schedule will not work since the President leaves the While House on Friday for the weekend; he is arranging a Party for a sail on the Harriet Lane that he will have no time to write; he hopes the trip will include Annapolis so that he might bring is best friend Mr. Scharff, who has kept him from becoming too wild, to meet her and implores her to like him; General Ward is joining the group in hopes that Miss Saunders will also be there, but she will not be; mentions her cousin Margie, the Ingrahams, and her aunt; chatted with Miss Emily.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson expressing his elation that the wedding is almost here and he can call her “wife”; is concerned with the wedding details such as his garment and the invitations; hopes that she will vanquish “our enemy,” her illness soon; wrote the President a “very dutiful but strong” letter but has not heard his reply; his business is improving; had a very cold July 4; approves her keeping Miss Emily out of “the plot” and disapproves of a priest acting “in that way.” Envelope with postmark and stamp addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. 142 Broadway, [New York], NY.

Letter from J. B. Henry to Louisa Anderson expressing sorrow that she is sick and hopes she can produce enough milk for the their son; thinks he will look like her when a little older; upset that he has to leave for Currituck a day before the amateur theatrical in which “Mr. Randall & Mr. McIlvain & possibly Randy Hagner” will take part; Miss Susie wrote a nice letter and will with others spend a few days; frustrated that a nurse for the baby is so hard to find, his preferring an Annapolis woman to a Staten Island woman because the latter might get “house sick”; Miss Daly might be able to help; happy that she has heard from Cousin Annie, Harriet, and Alice; fears the economic conditions will get worse and the poor will suffer greatly; his business partner, Mr. Parker, is very gloomy about the future; ends on a melancholy note. Henry to Louisa Anderson mentioning his happiness that Dick delivered her letter and for the information Charlie obtained from Mrs. Townsend; Mrs. Magruder will send Dody by train from New York to Newark; hopes to be home soon; friendships hard to make in Newport because everyone lives in cottages; thinks Col. Thompson might be ill; had a great sail to Providence and might go to Block Island next; Mr. Schmidt sent Mr Winan of Baltimore to look at the yacht but seems uninterested in buying it; Cousin Will Buchanan is too ill to come; and only one beautiful woman in Newport. Envelope addressed to Mrs. J Buchanan Henry, Stapleton, Staten Island, New York, stamp and postmark. Newport, Rhode Island, Tuesday, 28 [July 1875].
