Contains 87 leaves, unpaginated, unruled but most with vertical accounting lines. There are 2 front leaves; the 1st page has "Wheat Book; August the 20th 1824" written at the top and references to memorandum on the rest of the page. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th front leaves are blank. There are 2 end leaves with accounting notes on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th last pages.
Front cover has "Day Book" faintly written on the outside.
Book references rum, molasses, Liverpool plates, powder, blue broad cloth, silk twist & thread, whiskey, tobacco, fine ivory comb, salico, snuff, pair of shoes, lace, pepper, mackerel, etc.

Smedley & Kirk Prospect Mills Daybook D contains an itemized list of their profits and expenses and the employees of the mill and what they were being compensated for. The profits list ranges from selling corn, wheat, bran, oats, and flour, as well as sawing boards and planks. The recorded expenses for the mill include employee wages, and transportation costs. The daybook also contains a lock of hair with root attached (pg. 86-87). The hair is a brown with red highlights and is wryly; the source is unknown.

Joel Smedley was born in 1799 to parents Joseph Smedley and Rebecca Lewis Smedley. Joel married Martha Wildman and fathered six children including Charles, Mary, John, Lewis, Anne, and Ellwood. Joel inherited the mill from his father in 1833 and expanded it by building a sorghum factory. Joel died in 1872.

Robert Baldwin (1805-1888)
1827 - Robert Baldwin, school teacher came to Cains to reside at The Bull's Head.
1830 - Robert Baldwin and John Cains opened a store in Cains.
1843 - Robert Baldwin built his store and home on the corner of Cains Road and the Old Philadelphia Pike.
1849 - Robert Baldwin was elected to the State Legislature.
Book is intact except for a loose second front page. Cover has red rot and cut marks on front cover. Binding has begun to separate from spine. Foxing on most pages, minor water damage to a number of pages, small burn holes on pp. 375, 428.
