Letter from Thomas Welsh to Lillie Welsh (daughter)
Description
Handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh to his daughter, Lillie. From Camp Opposite, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Letter describes the sadness he feels from being away from his family and expresses the hope that the war will soon be over. He mentions that he has heard about the death of Edward Shreiner, provides some information about promotions and transfers, and expresses some dismay over not receiving letters from Blanton, Effie, and Lillie.
Admin/Biographical History

Letter from Thomas Welsh to Lillie Welsh (daughter)
Description
Handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh to his daughter, Lillie. From near Vicksburg, Mississippi. Letter expresses Welsh's pleasure at having received a letter from Lillie and includes the names of officers he has shared it with. Welsh notes the extreme heat of the camp; various health issues with some of the soldiers; and his hope to soon be relocating to Kentucky. He sends his love to all and asks Lillie to be a good girl and write soon. Note: The large number of friends Lillie seems to have among officers and men suggests that she must have accompanied Annie during her February visit to Newport News.
