Agreement between Elliott T. Lane and James Buchanan concerning funds of Jane B. Lane, Elliott’s wife and James’ sister, and in case she makes no will, how the estate will be divided. Involves bequeaths from her father, James Buchanan, and her mother, Elizabeth Buchanan. Also mentioned in the agreement are her sister, Harriett Henry, and her brother, the Reverend Edward Y. Buchanan, and her four children, James B. Lane, Elliott E. Lane, Mary Elisabeth Lane and Harriett Rebecca Lane. Franklin County, PA.

Letter from James Buchanan to James B. Lane, Esq. praising his appraising of some matting and for acting wisely in not buying Buchanan’s house at this time because of taking too much capital, but Buchanan will not offer it for sale publicly. Written on the blank page is James B. Lane’s reply stating that he does not wish to board but will do so until circumstances improve. He will inform Mr. Meredith that all he wants from the furniture at Wheatland is the matting. On the same stationery is a copy of James Lane’s reply from Lancaster, stating that he wants to exchange housekeeping for a property of his own and that Mr. Fortney wishes Buchanan to inform Mr. Meredith that he will not want any furniture from Wheatland except the matting. Renunciations are papers filed in the Orphans' Court by executors of an estate who do not wish to administer that estate. They show the name of the decedent, the decedent's place of residence, the name of the person renouncing administration, the name of the replacement administrator to be appointed, and date. The relationship between the decedent, the executor, and the administrator is usually shown. Arranged chronologically and then alphabetically within each year.
