Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson looking for her next letter; hopes she enjoyed her last party; Picolomini is singing, but he is not going to hear her; visited her sister Emily but she was out; the Ingrahams told him that Mary and Miss Margie were coming to town for a few days; list all the parties he hates to attend including Miss Saunders’ ball; General Cass’s dinner; the Douglas’s ball; Mrs. Riggs’ and Mrs. Merricks’ ball; and a reception at the President’s; still has a cold; infers she is the reason for his appreciating life more; Dr. Dan is flitting about on the social circuit; hopes Dr. Dan will find a “sweet little aunt” at Belvidere; the Scharffs are enjoying married life; Bob Magraw returned to Baltimore; the Cobbs and others on the Rev. Cutter’s expeditions dropped in on the Scharffs; and James Buchanan Henry will take to Scharffs to a reception and a large State dinner. Henry describing the disturbing condition of the baby [Buchanan Henry, 1860-1862?] and the difficulty she has with dealing with it; Mrs. Thieriot has been very helpful; attended sacred music concerts of Mr. Hubbard, Mr. Ladam, and Mr. Kensell; Henry and Therese have come; plans to come home by train via Ticonderoga and he will meet her at Troy Station; praises the staff at the hotel. Letter from Mary Hagner Nicholson Henry to J. B. Henry saying that she has gotten over homesickness and likes Mr. Punnett and his aunt now; asks that potatoes, apples, butter, and maple syrup be sent down; Mary Esther is much improved after marrying the minister Mr. Punnett, whose sermon lacked content but had great delivery; has invited them to Staten Island; Bucky is keeping her busy but isn’t walking yet; hopes Bridget and Annie leave her some grapes; and is angry with Mr. Sharff for misdirecting Aunt Lue’s letter to her when he knows Uncle Peter is at home. No place. Circa [1861] Year from age of child.
