Marriage certificate of Samuel Washington and Eliza [Liews], both of Carlisle. Mark of Jeffery Golden, Minister of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Witnessed by [Revd.] Willis [Nager]. With envelope, return address Armor's Old Book Store, Adjacent to Court House, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Fragile condition, separated at folds.

In 1847, Jeffry Goulden was a pastor for the Fredericktown Circuit, A.M.E. Church, Baltimore District. (The Baltimore Sun, 3 May 1847) He is listed as a laborer in Ward 6, Baltimore, Maryland, in the 1850 Census.

Description
Commercially printed black ink certificate with oval openings for pictures of the husband and wife. Here there are color inserts of a yellow and a pink rose. Top center pictures a woman and a man in a small boat. There's an open Bible with a gold wedding ring on it at center bottom. Written information: "Mr. John B. Fisher of Manor Twp, Lancaster Co. Penna. and Miss Alice Herr, Creswell, Manor Twp. Lancaster Co. Penna,/ were joined together in Holy Matrimony/ at Creswell, Penna, on the twenty-fifth day of October/ in the year of Our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred/ and eight two in accordance with the Laws of the State/ of Pennsylvania and the usages of the Evangelical Association/ Witnesses Frank Stauffer, Rev. W. C. Kantner/ Mattie Herr....Lith. by A. Hoen & Co. Balto. Copyright, D.W. Crider 1877. Crider & Bro. Publishers, York, Pa."

Wedding bells on a curved spray of white flowers and a sprig of pink dogwood flowers on the right surround the information: "This certifies/ that/ Ralph W. Walters of West Fairview and Esther C. Sterringer of Lancaster,/ State of Pennsylvania/ were by me united/ in Holy Matrimony,/ According to the Ordinance of God and the Laws of the State/ of Pennsylvania/ At Lancaster, Pa. on the fourteenth day of February,/ in the year of our lord/ One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty One./ D.G.Glass, / Faith Reformed Church/ Witnesses:/ Mrs Lillian Sterringer." Centered below is a circle showing Isaac as a shepherd with crook in the forground glancing toward camels and people wearing hooded white garb, illustrating an excerpt from Genesis, chapter 14, verses 63 and 67.
Below, on left: "Published by The Abingdon Press, New York-Cincinnati.
A 1.625-inch white border surrounds.
