Description
Manuscript book of poetry compiled by Alice Caldwell of Lancaster. Some poems, songs and hymns are copied from other sources, but some may be original. She signed and dated each composition. 1837-1839, 1853.
Insert 1 Three drawings by Alice Caldwell
Two drawings of a vase with intertwined flowers. 28 September 1827.
Branch with two peaches and at the side a smaller bird with a flower in its beak. 28 October 1831.
Insert 2 Eulogy, "On the Death of Robert Scott," composed by Henry Carter. Mr. Scott, a native of Little Britain, Lancaster County, died of Erysipelas Fever in California. No date.

Kauffman Wing, Lancaster County Historical Society
Description
Pencil drawing of the Kauffman Wing of The Lancaster County Historical Society. The drawing is beneath a white mat with a 6 x 9.5 opening. Drawn by Michael Abel in 1999.
Ink political cartoon by Lancaster Intelligencer Journal cartoonist, Jim Kinter, given to Ben Weaver: "To Ben Weaver/ with best wishes./ Jim Kinter." A dinosaur labeled LANCO GOP resentfully pulls a wood platform holding Ben Weaver who hits the dinosaur with a club and K.L. Shirk who prods the dinosaur with a stick. "BARRY" (Goldwater, 1964 Republican Party Presidential) is carved onto the slow-rolling wheel. Both "BEN WEAVER" and "SHIRK" are identified in the cartoon. "KINTER" appears in the lower left corner.

Kenelm L. Shirk, Jr. was Lancaster County GOP chairman from 1964 to 1971.

Tears on both sides ( 3 inches on right; 1.5 inches on left) at horizontal fold in center. Mark and puncture where tack was inserted.
Left-facing young man (head and shoulders) drawn in pastels. The subject has dark hair parted on the left, and brown eyes. He's wearing a suit jacket. His shirt collar is striped with red and his necktie is striped red and black.

Chunk of upper right side of paper is missing. Two other pieces on lower right. A 6.5-inch diagonal tear from lower right edge across boy's should ending beside his chin. Part of his tie is gone and there a 3+-inch tear along a horizontal fold from the lower left edge. Other small tears along left edge and center top edge. A piece of Scotch tape extends from middle of bottom edge.
Pencil drawing of left-facing profile of a man ('Pop') with receding hairline. He is wearing a suit coat, dress shirt and tie. There is a large '12' in the upper left corner above the man's forehead. Below, in cursive, written in pencil: "Picture of pop drawn at party at Aunt Anna's on Dec. 27 1939 by Wayne Weaver. (Probably Wayne's father or grandfather.)
On the back a pencil drawing of a man with curly hair and wearing spectacles has been crossed out.
Portrait, charcoal with white highlights in her hair, of a girl wearing a white cap. Her long hair is combed back and ringlets are on her shoulders: two on her left; three on her right. Her front bodice is a vee of lace with delicate flowers. There is a ruffled collar at her neck.
On back, in black is: "P.30"

One spot center top; a few black dots, left shoulder and bodice. Reverse shows a heavily browned band across the center with browned edges around the entrie piecce.
Full view of a girl in a large white bonnet. Her right hand is holding the handle of a a woman's black purse that touches the floor. The girl's skirt is calf-length. Her right hand is against a support covered with tinted designs similar to the rug on the floor. The child's has neatly trimmed bangs of brown hair and her eyes are blue.
Appears to be a photograph enhanced with color, highlights to girl's attire, purse, fabric covering and base boards. Architectural element(s) to the right are effectively blurred.

Drawing is attached to stiff cardboard. Three areas near top where small sections of top coloring are missing. Holes in each of the four corners and center left edge from thumbtacks or nails.Browning around edges on back with heavy brown line across center.
Portrait of a Plain gentleman with beard and no mustache. Front view, the man has brown hair parted on left and a gray beard. He wears a lapelled coat, vest, white shirt and bow tie. The signature "Saylor" appears beneath the left sleeve of the subject.
NOTE: Since B(enjamin) Franklin Saylor (1838-1920) was a photographer in Lancaster, this may be a photograph that was accented/highlighted with pencil.
Above measurements are to the portrait sheet that is attached to a cardboard piece 13" x 16". Back of cardboard shows some fluid stains in the lower right corner and foxing overall. Heavy streaks of brown along the right edge.

Although brown around edged, these areas were covered by an oval frame and the photo/portrait is clean.
Appears to be a charcoal-enhanced photo of a dog sitting on a wicker seat to the left of a standing boy who holds a pointed stick/rod in his left hand. The boy's right hand is on the dog. The boy's hair is parted on the left and his long-sleeved striped shirt hangs out over his slacks. A wide sash is knotted at his throat. He wears high laced shoes.
Probably late 19th to early 20th century. (1890-1910)
