This tablet is cast from metal recovered from the U.S.S. Maine." On the shield are the words 'patriotism' and 'devotion'. On the back of the photo: "In fear that 'ours' had wound up in this California auction - I photographed 'ours' and it is intact!" - J. McMullin.
