Swarr decrying the inefficiency of Bowie & Williams; answering that the amount he has received through Gaw Bacon & Co. from the estate is probably $14699.20 (excepting the amount given to Dripps); requesting the previous account rendered by Gaw and Bacon; asking to be informed about Harriet Johnston’s views on Dr. Carpenter’s bill before it is paid; and noting that Gaw Bacon & Co. sold the Pa 5 percents on Saturday at 93. Swarr thanking him for his resumé of his latest correspondence with the Johnstons; saying that Mrs. Johnston has no power to prevent the removal of the papers from Wheatland and leaving the legal steps necessary to remove the papers to Swarr; denying that he and his daughter Annie left papers at Wheatland in confusion after sorting out important ones for Mr. Reed, although agreeing that they are now in confusion; noting the absurdity of Mrs. Johnston suggesting that increasing the biographical fund to $20,000 would in any way assure the rapid acquisition of a suitable biographer; and sympathizing with Mr. Swarr on having to correspond with such unreasonable persons as the Johnstons.
