He advises James not to board because it gives a bad appearance and that he is putting his house in Lancaster on the market. Sees some hope in the coming election. Washington.

This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Letter from James Buchanan to James B. Lane, Esq. praising his appraising of some matting and for acting wisely in not buying Buchanan’s house at this time because of taking too much capital, but Buchanan will not offer it for sale publicly. Written on the blank page is James B. Lane’s reply stating that he does not wish to board but will do so until circumstances improve. He will inform Mr. Meredith that all he wants from the furniture at Wheatland is the matting. On the same stationery is a copy of James Lane’s reply from Lancaster, stating that he wants to exchange housekeeping for a property of his own and that Mr. Fortney wishes Buchanan to inform Mr. Meredith that he will not want any furniture from Wheatland except the matting. The square posts shown by Miesse, and by stoner do not show. 3.) The step to light the lamp post appears idnentical with the one in 2.) above. 4.) Note: the chairs on the porch, the plants in front of the porch, and the limbs of the tree in front of western side appear to be indentical - in time. As to the lamp on Dengler's post, is it the same Coe photographers say yes; and no?"
