Henry happy to finally get a letter and that he had weathered the storm even if the yacht were damaged; Cousin William thinks they should not sell the Canal Street property until the Turnell story next door is sold, and he advises against buying that store or any other property until finding out how the Turnell property is changed; Frank says they are being sued over agricultural implement, but hopes to postpone action because of Dr. Anderson’s ill health; otherwise all is well. Henry to Louisa Anderson discussing an article of Colonel Thompson to appear in the Gazette; money matters need a rest because of the expense of the yacht; is upset with his bad luck; Frank should know that the contract James Buchanan Henry prepared is with her father but that Mr. Kentgen knows its content and Mr. Rerens has a copy; hopes to take a trip with her in the autumn; advises the family to show understanding and compassion to Aunt Sydney in her weakened mental state. Envelope has letterhead of Parker House, New Bedford addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Stapleton, Richmond Co., New York with postmark and two stamps, one loose. New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Henry to Louisa Anderson providing a menu to show that they are eating well; recounting his encounter with a major storm on the sea between Martha’s Vineyard and Newport, Rhode Island, fearing for the lives of Ives, Shirley, and himself; they miraculously landed on a sandy beach and avoided the rocks; rescued, he made arrangements to reclaim the yacht; enjoyed the celebration at the yacht harbor with fireworks, his was the smallest yacht ; cites a number of yellow fever cases of Dr. [Leery] and Frank; hopes they are all right; gives love to her father, aunt, brother, and the children. Envelope has letterhead of Parker House, New Bedford addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Stapleton, Richmond Co, New York. With postmark and loose stamp. New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Henry to Louisa Anderson expressing his shock of the change in weather from the south of France to the north; relates his time with Frank in Marsailles; recalls his conversation with Mrs. Post of Baltimore in Vienna; wrote to Belle and her mother; tells of his plans in London and will sail next week from Liverpool, either on a fast ship or a slow one; discusses his health and hopes a regular routine at home will help; saw an exposition and hopes to visit Mr. and Mrs. Blake and Anne McAndrew but not Mrs. Minton because his clothes are too shabby. Envelope addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Garden City, (Long Island) New York, America, damaged with postmarks but stamp missing. Paris, [France].

Henry saying that he cannot take part in any more land deals at the moment and thinks little of Greenfield and Kapff; asks after Rob, Will, and Sid; sorry to hear of Randy Hagner’s accident with a gun; telegrams about war with Spain appear in the paper but nothing is definite or authentic; the spring weather is cold, windy, and rainy; and cites the mail dates and always appreciates his mail. Envelope with postmarks and torn where stamp was addressed to J. Buchanan Henry, forwarded from Hotel Maryland, Annapolis, Maryland, United States of America to a hotel in Washington, D.C.
