This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr expressing regret that Mr. Swarr has suffered a broken arm; satisfaction that Mr. Brown has agreed to sift through the files of the Intelligencer & Journal for Judge Cadwalader; and giving the sad news that his son William is very sick and may not recover. Swarr explaining that Judge Cadwalader is opposed to hiring Mr. Brown to search the newspaper files, because he feels that he will need all funds over the $5000 bequest for his own necessary expenses; adding that Judge Cadwalader declines to have anything to do with the $5000 bequest to Mrs. Reed; and that Mr. Swarr should consider this letter confidential.
