Description
This collection contains letters to Annie Kendig (1852-1936), from Annie to her cousin and the obituary of Henry G. Rush. The majority of the letters are love letters written to Annie from Frank Griest (1853-1900), son of Elwood Griest, editor of the Lancaster Inquirer. Frank Griest's letters also include detailed descriptions of plants and technology exhibited in Lancaster, as well as occasional mentions of politics.
Admin/Biographical History
Annie Kendig was the daughter of Abraham M. and Elizabeth Barr Kendig. Her father was a descendent of Adam Kendig of Conestoga Twp. Annie married Henry Gall Rush in 1881. She is buried with her husband at the New Danville Mennonite Cemetery in Pequea Twp.

Description
This record group contains canceled orders that were issued by the county commissioners for payment to be made by the county treasurer. The orders show date, order number, amount, name of payee, purpose, and signatures of the county commissioners. In the case of "poor children," teachers were reimbursed by the county for tuition and/or the supplies purchased for students whose parents were unable to pay. Orders include: Poor Children, Almshouse, Bridges, Coroners' Inquests, Prisons, Roads, Court House, and Tax Exonerations.
