This is the first of 4 volumes by this author on the life of Washington. It deals with his life from birth until the beginning of the Revolutionary War.
The service of General Muhlenberg in the colonial army during the Revolutionary War takes up the largest part of this biography. There is an appendix that includes letters from Muhlenberg to other officers during the war ,and letters he received from Washington and other commanders. Also in the appendix is a list of all generals that participated in the war and General Muhlenberg's daily journal of 1784 The sources for the book are shown in his preface and in footnotes .
