Description
This collection contains records for the Ladies' Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary of St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster, PA from 1881-2002. One volume contains the names of volunteers and the hours they logged from 1967-1992. Newsletters, programs, and newspaper articles provide information about the many community activities and fundraising events of the organization.
Admin/Biographical History
St. Joseph Hospital (1883-2000) started in a moderate-sized building on College Avenue that was purchased by the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, Philadelphia Foundation. The Ladies' Auxiliary began in 1903 to promote the community's health and welfare, engage in fundraising activities, and promote good relations between the hospital and community. The Junior Auxiliary was made up of volunteers who had limited time available, participated in fundraising activities, and met in the evening at five general meetings per year.

Collection of materials from three hospitals in Lancaster: St. Joseph Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital, and Community Hospital of Lancaster (formerly the Osteopathic Hospital). Consists of histories, programs, in-house magazines and newsletters, annual reports, and fund-raising campaign materials.
The Lancaster General Hospital Scrapbook, 1916 contains typed and handwritten letters, staff lists, committee lists, and newspaper clippings. The items in the book discuss the financial, administrative and public state of the hospital in 1916. The book covers the Lancaster General School for nurses, staff lists, debts, and lists of committees and members. Individuals who supported the institution include Milton T. Garvin, F. L. Suter, Lilliam F. Wardell, Hugh R. Fulton, Elam H. Risser and William Shand.
Admin/Biographical History
Lancaster General Hospital opened in December 1893 with the mission to deliver the best possible care to anyone in need, regardless of ability to pay. In 1903, the hospital established the Nurses' Training School with the first graduating class of 1905. The hospital purchased its first motorized ambulance in 1916. The Department of Physical Therapy was started in the early 1950s. During 1970, Dr. Nikitas Zervanos developed the Family Practice Residency Program. Seven years later, Lancaster General Hospital received the equipment to make CAT scans possible. The Women's Health Pavilion, which was located inside Lancaster General Hospital, was completed in 1986. After many years of development and construction, the Lancaster General Health Campus was completed in 1994, and Women and Babies' Hospital opened in 2000; both are located on Harrisburg Pike.

The Rossmere Sanatorium Records contain a 1908 membership list for the Society for Prevention of Tuberculosis of Lancaster County, a charter for the Tuberculosis Society of Lancaster County, property records and annual reports for Rossmere Sanatorium and programs for commemorative events.
Admin/Biographical History
The Rossmere Hotel, which was located in Manheim Twp., opened in 1898. The building became a tuberculosis sanatorium in 1925; the ballroom was converted into a ward for female patients. The sanatorium closed in 1957 and was eventually demolished.

Description
An invitation to James Buchanan from a committee appointed to organize a military encampment at Ephrata (Camp Brandywine) for a ceremony to lay a cornerstone of a monument erected in memory of two-hundred soldiers of the American Revolution. The soldiers were “buried in the vicinity of the village, wounded at the Battle of Brandywine…died in the hospitals at Ephrata.” Lancaster.

Benjamin was the son of William and Mary Ann (Dorwart) McComsey. In 1860 he was a farmer living with his family in Providence Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Ben's service during the Civil War was brief. He enlisted in Lancaster on 7 August 1862 and was mustered into the U.S. Army on August 11 as a private with Company D, 122nd Pennsylvania Infantry. He died from typhoid fever in a military hospital at Berlin, Worcester County, Maryland on 7 November 1862.
