Johnston noting that he had a pleasant visit to brother Edward’s family and is happy that mother and son are doing well; reporting of seeing Mr. Macalester (a member of the Union League and a “violent” Republican, though he gave a dinner for Mr. Peabody along with John W. Forney in attendance, and happy that even though Macalester voted for Geary that his son voted for Clymer, and a note about Lily and Harriet; repeating the rumor that Harriet Buchanan and Bob Rogers will be married; having not seen the Nevins; begging off from visiting during the winter but hopes to come in warmer weather; asking that Harriet be informed of all the good wishes from her friends; and that Judge Cadwalder gave him a dinner with General Meade in attendance. Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr detailing financial affairs. He has placed their bonds and Miss Hetty’s in the Safety Deposit Building in Philadelphia and the certificates in the Farmers & Mechanics Bank. A new Power of Attorney is required for Lehigh Valley Railroad to continue to issue dividends to the Misses Pleasanton, although he would prefer that a new Trustee be appointed to whom their securities could be transferred. He will prepare the letter to Mr. Demund soon. He has asked Mr. Johnston to bid on the sleigh with a $50.00 limit; and asks that someone be at Mr. Trout’s to receive things as they arrive.
