Elizabeth Herr Shenk (1869-1934) married Leroy Frey Mayer (1868-1958). Their daughter Kathryn M. Mayer Lichty (1901-1972) and her husband Charles Fouse Lichty (1899-1983) moved to Howell County, Missouri between 1940 and 1950.

Description
"West Point Tic Tacs, A Collection of Military Verse" is book belonging to Blanton C. Welsh that he recieved in West Point, New York at the military academy there. The book was published by Homer Lee & Co. of 65 Liberty Street, New York and copyrighted in 1878. The book is dedicated to the cadets and graduates of the United States Military Academy. The contents include cadet songs and poems, army poems, and other miscellaneous writings as well as illustrations all from various authors and illustrators. There are also loose interted photographs and paper cut outs throughout the pages and signature pages in the back of the book.

The book is inscribed as belonging to Blanton C. Welsh. Blanton C. Welsh wrote inside "B.C. Welsh, West Point N.Y. June 11, 1878 Class '81. The three loose photots within the book are evidently from West Point and reside between pages 112 and 113. The signatures in the back of the book date mostly from 1880-1881 but vary and date up until 1882.

Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men. Description
Handwritten draft of a letter from Thomas Welsh to James Buchanan or to William L. Marcy requesting instructions on how to proceed following his appointment as 2nd Lieutenant; the same draft document also contains remarks (prepared for some meeting) advocating a vigorous prosecution of the war; the document ends with a poem evidently written by Welsh summarizing his feelings about going back into war, a wounded veteran ready for further sacrifice to secure an honorable and lasting peace.

Description
Typed transcription of a poem written by Lieutenant Thomas Welsh on the eve of his departure for the Mexican War. Poem consists of 4 stanzas, 4 lines each. At the bottom of the page is the announcement of the death of Gen. Welsh and the seven lines that Annie Welsh added sometime after the poem first appeared in Harper's Weekly, 2 January 1892. Thomas Welsh (1824-1863) was a Lancaster County native (born and raised in Columbia), who rose from hardscrabble origins to local fame, first as a Mexican War hero, and then as a brigadier general during the Civil War. He was well known and well respected as a no nonsense officer, for his leadership and gallantry in battle, for his dedication to the service of his country, and for his concern for the welfare of his men.
