Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson wondering why her last letter had a sad ring to it; does not want to return to the “hateful climate of Washington”; is happy that her sister Emily is coming to Lake George as part of her wedding trip but is sad he will not be there show her its beauty; the family Thieriot is prepared to love her when they meet her; gives his travel itinerary, stopping in New York to see Mr. Scharff and attend to business, stopping to see Edward Young Buchanan, whose family nursed him back to health when he was sick, and finally arriving in Annapolis for the weekend; tried to paint her a picture of Lake George, but has not painted recently. Envelope from Bolton, NY September 10 with stamp partially removed addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. Bolton, Lake George, NY.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson expressing surprise and delight at receiving her “extra” letter which he received a day late because the President and his party were still in the country and he is happy that her mother guards her well; reports that talking to her mother was gratifying especially since Mary’s grandmother was feeling better; the president of the Austrian ministry would like to present an autographed letter to the President in person; met her Uncle Peter and his wife this morning; has not seen Dan or the girls but will soon; will move back to the city very soon; his friend Schraff appears to have shaken the blues over a love affair; hopes she will be well enough to visit him soon. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson saying he has been too busy to write or to see her mother; Miss Emily has returned to Annapolis; had hoped that the President would no return to the city so soon, but since the weather has cooled, perhaps she can visit; pities her mother with her dental problems; mentions the comet appearing over the bay; Miss Macalester has gone; Miss Ida Seimres is marrying a “strong Catholic”; the Van Limburgs have taken a house on 7th Street; will see her mother soon and hopes to resume more frequent writing. 2 envelopes with stamp and postmark addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. Washington, D.C.
