Copy of letter from James Buchanan to David Lawson, Esq. acknowledging receipt of several letters concerning a contract on “the Lucinda property” in Clarion and questioning Mr. Lawson increasing his commission from 5 percent to 7 ½ percent unless Mr. Reynolds had approved it. Wheatland.

Copy of the list of contributors to the new stand of colors presented to the 79th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
"We, the undersigned agree to pay the sums set opposite our names ($1. each) for the purpose of purchasing a stand of colors for the 79th Pennsylvania (Lancaster County) Regiment of Volunteers, commanded by Col. Henry A. Hambright--to be presented as a testimonial of the high regard and esteem in which they are held by their fellow-citizens at home, for their admirable discipline and unflinching bravery at Chaplin Hills and Chattanooga."
The names have been recorded in the copy, they are not the original signatures and may not be accurate.

Power of attorney granted under the will of the late Stephen Pleasonton of Washington granting the power to James Buchanan for his daughters, Laura and Clementina, in which Buchanan outlines terms under which the daughters can receive funds for their own use followed by a listing of the loans and stocks and their value received from their father’s will. Marble base is doubled, smaller chair on top of larger. Metal band separate them, molded in foliate design. Column is two-toned metal with marble-vein design, slightly tapering. Oil reservoir above is shaped like a top and has eleven sets of crystals hanging from the edge of the reservoir.
Hanging oil lamp that was converted to electricity. 'S' curved links to clear glass smoke dome. Three chains from dome to lamp in shape of spittoon. Connected to band around neck by ornate metal hook. Glass is smoked and etched with daisy-like flowers and berry clusters. Lower metal reservoir round, box-like with pendant finial; formerly held oil, molded on sides with bell shaped flowers and leaves.
Round, bowl-like base, rounded lip with curved, open, finger-handle ending in hole in which cone-shaped snuffer fits. Central candle holder, tall with 3 bands of 3 lines around. A vertical cut slot is on one side of the stem that has a curled lever to push the candle up in the stem as it is consumed by the flame.
Brass and glass lamp. Converted to electricity. Marble base is square with brass stem that resembles a column. Lamp globe is frosted with designs in clear glass. Globe is wide at bottom and much narrower at top. Prisms hang from base of globe.
Oil lamp of light tinned sheet iron, painted a dull black. Cylindrical oil reservoir w/ rounded top and bottom has a projecting wick tube and wick. Wire wick pick on chain attached to removable collar around wick. Supported by a cylindrical pillar with an air hole at side near bottom. Lamp rests on a saucer base with gold painted ring decorating edge of raised center. Finger ring soldered to bottom of cup and center pillar. Reservoir is stenciled with gold lettering: "SAML. DAVIS/ PATENTED/ MAY 6th,1856".
Strong paint losses, esp. on rim of saucer base with resultant rusting. Paint losses also on fuel reservoir sides. Structurally sound. Scattered and rust. Bottom worn.
