The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
Appraisements of real estate for inheritance tax. Some personal property appraisals are also included. Appraisals include: name of decedent; location and description of real estate; description of personal property; valuation of real estate and personal property; and assessed tax. May also include names of heirs. Arranged chronologically by year, then alphabetically by first letter of decedent's last name. Handwritten; from 1886, handwritten on printed forms.

"Lancaster City Lots." Plan of Chestnut Street Tract owned by A. H. Brenneman and Jesse Landis, Esqrs. Plan by J. E. Rigart, Surveyor. Circa 1850. Situated between the Columbia and Philadelphia Railroad line and Grove's Town Road and includes Walnut Street, Fulton Street, Chestnut Street, Marion Street, Ann Street, Marshall Street, and Franklin Street. Shows properties of Peter Long, Locomotive Works, John Black, Lefevre, Mrs. Corie, John N. Lane, and Dennis Marion. Color drawing of a house right of center. Framed by Darmstaetter's. Printed on thin brown linen.
Condition is fair with old tape repairs and minor losses at center and lower right corner.

One hardbound volume of what appears to be an index to sheriff's deeds. Lists names of grantor and grantee, book number and page number, location and description of property, date of entry, and name of previous owner. The Partition Docket records the division of land between the listed parties, gives the date, book number and page number, describes some properties and the value, and records the action taken. The Ejectment Docket records give the date and judgments for one case.
