Description
Catharine B. Spitler, a resident of Landisville, Pennsylvania, compiled these scrapbooks. Book one contains information primarily about World War II. The newspaper clippings include information about Lancaster natives, both men and women that were involved in World War II, including ranks and location of service. There are also articles about the United States involvement in World War II. Interesting local articles and programs discuss the World War II Memorial in West Hempfield Township. Columbia's Sesquicentennial was documented through a series of newspaper clippings located in this scrapbook.
Book two is a compilation of newspaper clippings, engagement announcements, wedding announcements and obituaries pertaining to Lancastrians. Locations around Lancaster County that were mentioned are as follows: Lancaster, Hempfield, Ephrata, Maytown and Mount Joy. An interesting subject within the second scrapbook is the1972 Flood of Lancaster (Hurricane Agnes).

Description
James Buchanan and Wheatland Scrapbook, February 1936-May 1948. This scrapbook describes the establishment and grand opening of James Buchanan’s Wheatland in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The volume contains newspaper articles that tell Wheatland estate’s history and James Buchanan’s life story. Newspaper articles illustrate the excavation and archaeology performed at the estate before May 1948.
Admin/Biographical History
James Buchanan was born on April 23, 1791 to James Buchanan and Elizabeth Speer. He was the second child born out of ten children, and he would go on to outlive all but one of his siblings. Most popularly remembered as Pennsylvania's only President and as a lifelong bachelor, Buchanan committed a lifetime to politics. In 1821, he left his law practice and embarked on his political career after having been voted into the U.S. House of Representatives. He would remain in the House for five consecutive terms before serving as the U.S. Minister to Russia, a Senator in the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Secretary of State, the U.S. Minister to Great Britain, and finally, the 15th President of the United States. He died in his bedchamber at Wheatland at 8:30 AM on June 1, 1868. He was 77 years old.

Description
These scrapbooks address the development of Manheim Township. There is a variety of correspondence discussing the boundary lines between Greater Lancaster and Manheim Township and the impact they would have on the community. The books show the debates between Kendig C. Bare with Simplex Paper Box Corporation and John M. Groff with Armstrong Cork Company. The newspaper clippings give a wider community view of the complex problems in developing new boundary lines, including taxes and education.

Description
Lancaster Recreation Association Annual Report. The report contains a list of board members, letter from the Director of Recreation, financial report, attendance, and information about programs and associated organizations. The programs included indoor and outdoor activities, playgrounds, wading pools and street showers, hikes, sports, community parties, city-wide pageant, sale of war bonds and stamps, Victory gardens, and outreach to the childrens' wards at the hospitals. The associated clubs and organizations were the boys' and girls' clubs and the Crispus Attucks Recreation Center.

More than fifty scripts for the WGAL radio show, "Aunt Min Sez," were saved in this scrapbook. Aunt Min, the homespun character, shared anecdotes about holidays, the weather, church, dieting, learning to ride a bicycle, Atlantic City, a bat in the house, house cleaning, and various other subjects. Her stories combined humor with down-to-earth philosophy about life and provided entertainment for readers and listeners.
Mrs. Marian Root Wisler, of Columbia, Pennsylvania began publishing "Aunt Min Sez" as a newspaper column in November 1938. The fifteen minute radio scripts were written and read by Mrs. Wisler, who was sometimes joined by Mrs. Wilbur Laird portraying "Jen." The show aired Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. on WGAL radio and the scripts were published in The Columbia Broadcaster.

Marian Root Wisler was married to John Jay Wisler, Sr. who was a 4th cousin of John W. W. Loose. Mrs. Wisler was the publisher of The Columbia Broadcaster from 1931-1934.

"Lancaster's Salute to Barney Ewell." Program of athletic events for Barney Ewell Booster Night. Stumpf Field. A feature event of Pennsylvania Week. Autographed "To 'Joe,' Barney Ewell, Olympic Team 1948." Contains congratulatory messages from local businesses and a summary of his achievements.

Henry Norwood "Barney" Ewell (1918-1996) was born in Harrisburg and lived in Lancaster for most of his life. He won the U.S. junior sprint title in high school and made a name for himself with many other athletic achievements. As a college athlete at Penn State University, Ewell won NCAA titles in 100-meter and 200-meter sprints in 1940 and 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and returned home to win more national titles in the long jump and earned his B.S. at Penn State.
Ewell, at age 30, finally had his chance to compete with the best athletes in the world at the 1948 Olympic Games which were held in London. He earned a place on the U.S. track team and won a gold medal in the 400-meter relay. He also received silver medals in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
After the Olympics, Ewell returned to Lancaster. He and his wife, Duella, raised their family on Rockland Street in Lancaster City and later moved to Green Street. The Lancaster City directories list him as an employee of several businesses throughout his lifetime, including Coatesville Steel.

Grace Anna Brosius was the daughter of Hon. Marriott Henry Brosius and Elizabeth Jackson Coates Brosius of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She attended Swarthmore College from 1895-1897. She married Clement Miller Biddle (1876-1959) on 28 November 1900 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

This Bride's Book is the scrapbook for the wedding of Doris Jane Hall and Richard Henry Barr, Jr., both of Lancaster. At the front is a copy of the marriage service and certificate. The wedding was officiated by Pastor Allen L. Benner at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster on 28 December 1946. The engagement was announced at the Hamilton Club on 5 August 1946. The volume contains engagement, bridal shower and wedding cards, as well as the wedding invitation. A description is given for each party and shower, including hostess, location, menu, guest list and gifts. Newspaper clippings announce the engagement and wedding. The bride's trousseau and fabric samples and details of the gowns are recorded. The bridal party is listed and the service is detailed. The guest list is a "Who's Who" of Lancaster. The couple honeymooned in Bermuda and kept a journal of their trip. Their family trees are found on the last page. Housed with the scrapbook are Richard's obituary and Doris' burial location.

The associated clubs and organizations were the boys' and girls' clubs, and the Crispus Attucks Recreation Center.
