Text includes a description of the location of the town of Waterford, noting that the inhabitants are Quaker and friendly. Welsh expresses his disappointment in not hearing more from his family, but writes of missing his family very much.

Letter describes his new command - a brigade consisting of 15 regiments of infantry and two batteries of artillery; his purchase of a horse for $200; and his challenges regarding expenses and the need to borrow money. Letter also discusses the weather and favorable conditions of the camp; mentions General Burnside at Cincinnati and General Willcox at Lexington; and concludes with "love to all sends love to all and kisses to the children."

Fragment of a handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh most likeley intended for Annie Welsh. The letter fragment contains news from camp; a discussion of the acceptance by his men of discipline, temperance, drilling, etc.; a visit by Govenor Curtin's brother to visit his two sons, and the expectation of his next posting. The letter identifies him as "45" in the letters published in the Columbia Spy. Note: Although the letter fragment is not dated, its content clearly establishes its origin in Camp Hamilton, November 1861. This is a transcription of the original letter.

Description
Draft of a letter from Thomas Welsh to General Orlando B. Willcox. From Hustonville, Kentucky. Deals with disciplinary matters in the 27th Michigan Regiment, including the Chaplain who wrote a plaintive letter to the Detroit Advertiser & Tribune that was also evidently disrespectful to his superior officers. Welsh arrested the Chaplain, but recommends against dismissing him from service. In another matter involving charges brought by the late Lt. Col. Sprague of the 27th against Col. Fox of the 27th, Welsh declines to convene a Court Martial, recommending that for procedural reasons it be handled at the Department or Division level instead.

Description
Letter from William Henry Lebkicher to his father, David McGran Lebkicher, from camp near Fredericksburg, regarding Lt. Long leaving for home (Lancaster, PA). He mentions the return of Jacob Holabauck, who was one of three to become sick at Georgetown, and the 9th Army Corp going to Fortress Monroe. 14 February 1863.
In the a little bit below the center of the letter, there are two cuts on the first and fourth pages of the letter.

Letter from John B. Lebkicher to brother from camp, in which he describes being on the front near the Tennessee River with the enemy before them. They were low on rations and artillery because the weather had been rainy and the wagons are stuck in the mud. They had already captured many prisoners and the way they were traveling in to Tullahoma could lead to more captures. Complains of marching too much.
