The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr proposing that Mrs. Dunham be paid a remittance of $1000, be charged for the principal and interest on her mortgage or bond, and that his son James should be employed to handle the transactions. Oxford Church Parsonage, Philadelphia.

Corrected manuscript attributed to Harriet Lane Johnston, describing James Buchanan’s love for Wheatland, a house “well adapted for entertainment or domestic comfort,” which will be forever associated with his “sage advice and witty anecdotes,” and the spring from which someone “often brought him water fresh from its cool depths.” 6 leaves.
