Birth & baptismal certificate on laid paper. Printed form with central textblock in German within a multiple line border. Infilled and decorated around textblock by Speyer; cross-legged angel at top, pelicans feeding young at sides and flowers at sides and bottom. Watercolors are red, blue, yellow, green and brown.
Infilled for Johannes, son of Valiendein (Valentine) and Eliesabetha (Elisabetha) Bohmer of Brecknock Township in Lancaster Co., born Dec. 13, 1788.
Georg Friederich Speyer (active 1774-1801) used this printed form produced c. 1789 by Barton & Johnson of Reading. See Notes.
General wear with numerous creases and wrinkles; one pronounced vertical centerline crease. Repaired tears, esp at left edge. All edges are ragged and uneven, esp. at right.
Conserved by CCAHA in 1989 (see report in file). Hinged into window mat & back mat. Relaced in its original frame using UF-3 Plexiglas and acid-free cardboard on reverse with a taped mylar dust shield.

Color-printed Marriage Certificate on heavy tan paper. Inside border on brown field is an overarching banner with "Jesus Christus along with 3 bible verses. Surround a white field with text are 5 color scenes in circles and ovals along with flowers. Text block has a small angel with putti flanked by "Traus" and "Schein" (Marriage Certificate). Infilled in cursive with black ink. Bridal couple are Joseph W. Houk and Marie A. Schleeger, both of Columbia, married 30 June 1902 in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbia. Witnesses were Martin Schwarz, Louis Schleeger, Frederick Schleeger and August Witte. It is signed at the bottom "Harrisburg den 5ten Februar 1902 / Eduard H. Paar, / Ev. Luth. Pastor." Below the outside border is "No. 104" at left and "Verlag von Ernst Kaufmann, 330 Pearl Street, New York." at right. Reverse side has "White & gilt / 85" written in pencil.
Printed in New York City by Ernst Kaufmann. Infilled in Columbia or Harrisburg, likely by pastor Eduard H. Paar.
Dark smudges at top center. Brown liquid stains along bottom and upper right corner. Along left edge are two minor creases and one small tear. Reverse shows acid burn from backing board while framed as well as brown soil around all edges. Liquid stains evident particularly in bottom corners. Dark smudges along top.

Small redware cream pitcher of ovoid form with flared lip; pinched spout and applied strap handle; rust covered with heavy mustard colored mottling on interior of rim and lighter mottling on exterior. "MADE BY BIXLER" hand-printed on bottom in white.
Trinket chest of dovetail construction, hinged lid, turned feet and polychrome decoration. Bottom secured with square nails. Keyhole at front; key missing. On a burnt orange ground are 5 large decals (4 of fruit and 1 of flowers) and one small decal at front center of spread eagle, shield and banner. Chest sides and top have centered line decoration of 3 concentric rectangles with hollow corners (black, ochre, white). Feet are black. Edge moldings of lid and base painted black with yellow-green double line decoration enclosing leafy scrolling vines. Interior and underside unfinished.
Inked # 00.43.1 on bottom. Two old stickers: "65603" on back and "65625" on bottom.
Attributed to Joseph Lehn (1798-1892). South of Clay, Elizabeth Township.

Paint soiled and darkened. Large scar on left end of lid molding. Arc scored into top at right front of lid. Wear/abrasions overall, especially lid and base molding. Loose left front foot and paint loss of right back foot. Pristine interior. One hing screw missing.

These four items were designated as basketweaving tools by donor. Unknown origin.
Glove stretcher is cast, nickel-plated brass (?). Made of two opposing lengths of tapered, rounded metal, spring operated. Dog's leg shape tool has handle cast with raised, scrolled decoration. Opposite end is tapered so it fits into glove fingers for stretching after being heated. The larger end of the taper is inset with lead for holding heat.
Inscriptions: "THE / FOSTER GLOVE STRETCHER" is on one handle and the other has "PATENTED JULY 27, 1888."

Button-hole cutter, creaser or marking tool is silver plated ferrous metal.
In form of a miniature spoon with a blade instead of a bowl. Blade is eye-shaped with raised midline extending from tip to tip. Edges of blade are fairly sharp. Handle end has the bust of a crowned femal monarch with long flowing hair and necklace above a decorative base of scrolls surrounding a cabochon. Shaft of tool is similar to an architectural column. Entire handle is made of two identical halves, cast and joined with side seams visible.

See another example of this ring found on internet in this file. Iguala is a town near the renowned silvermaking town of Taxco (near the west coast of Mexico) where William Spratling, in the 1930s, famously reinstituted the silver industry and craftsmanship that had died centuries before.

Hem gauge or measure of ferrous metal, electroplated nickel silver blade with a sterling silver plated handle. Handle is a pierced foliate design with a rose at top. A heart motif is at center of handle. Blade extends form handle in the form of a ruler 3 inches long. Moveable clamp with pointed tip can be locked in place along gauge.
Possibly made by the Webster Silver Company. Inscription: Marked "STERLING" on both sides of handle with the Webster Silver Company mark alongside - a "W" on an arrow.

Set of tatting tools, nickel silver plated steel, has four pieces. Each piece has in common the shaped and decorated portions, the handles of the three tools and the needle case body. This feature is a flattened octagonal shape in cross-section, with successive divots ground out with a round grinding wheel. Handles and case all taper along their length.
A. Needle case is 2.75" long and .375" wide. At the heavier end of case is a fitted cap that slides onto a smaller male extension protruding from main body. Seam visible along sides where both halves of case have been joined.
B. Hook on handle is 4" long and .25" wide. Tapers from handle end down to where shaft is attached. Shaft has ball-and-ring at handle, a slight swell along length and a minute hook at tip.
C. Awl is 3.625" long and .25" wide. Same handle as above. Shaft is similar in shape except heavier and shorter and has a sharp tip.
D. Threading tool(?) is 3" long and .5" long. Same handle as above. Shaft is shorter and has a large open loop in a teardrop shape.
