The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
This collection contains genealogical data, Civil War Widow's Pension receipts, Lancaster city tax receipts of the family of John and Catharine Robinson, an affidavit of the birth of Anna Duke Krauskop, and an itinerary and program of the Liberty Bell's journey to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915.
Admin/Biographical History
John Robinson (1826-1866) married Catharine Burns on 9 March 1851. Their daughter, Susan (b. 1851), married Lewis Krauskop. John Robinson served in Co. B, First Pennsylvania Reserves, in the Civil War.

Rates of Postage and Classification of Mail Matter, by James H. Marshall, Postmaster of Lancaster, published by The New Era Steam Print. Spring 1880, pp.22. The book details rules and regulations of the post office, classification of mail types and accompanying postage prices, suggestions to the public, and domestic and foreign money order systems. Pinned to pg.4 is "Strange Bible Facts" with advertisement for Turkish bath on reverse side.
Contains 81 leaves, pagination ruled pages with vertical accounting lines. 33 pages are blank.
Front cover and spine are missing. Back cover is not attached and had "J. S. Echelman 93 Master" written on the inside.
Book references to payment received for sales of the day, including produce, eggs, wood, dried apples, butter, peas, lard, wool, oil, washed wool, cigars, bacon, tallen, coffee, etc.
Front cover and spine are missing. Back cover is not attached and is heavily worn with edges worn through.
Pages are loosely bound with string. Pages1 and 2 are missing. Page 3 & 4, 23 & 24, pages 143 to 148, are not attached. All pages have indication of water damage.

Description
Advertising trade card for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, the largest importers and retailers in the world, pioneers in the business, and the only importers dealing direct with consumers.
The front of this trade card, with its derogatory and cariactured depiction of race, shows an African American family that stops to read a billboard advertising the business. "Whoa! Stephen till I read dis yer sign."
The reverse contains the address of the home office, locations of stores throughout the United States, and warnings about the "vile mixtures" of competitors.
