Letter from J. B. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson expecting to hear in her next letter than her mother and the rest of the family are well; will send her a book of sermons he found enlightening; encloses a “funny” telegram from Mr. Scharff expressing concern that their boat and James Buchanan Henry were lost in a storm, based on a newspaper article; played a game of chess with Mr. Appleton and was beaten but hopes she will learn the game so that they can have “lovers’” games with long times between moves; and has seen nothing of her grandmother’s family since his last letter.
